Good read. I was shocked that Bonners first year as a Spur was LMA's rookie season.

"Guys that like to pass, guys that know how to play, guys who are slow and can't jump, they fit pretty good in San Antonio."
    Shhh...Don't tell Simms about this.

"In my opinion, Lindsey said, there won't be anyone like him again"

It will be awhile. You had Bird, then you had Duncan. Guys with that HIGH BB IQ, Natural Leaders and not the most athletic player at their position in the league, yet still the best player, yeah that is a rarity indeed.

A couple of years ago when it looked like the Thunder would be the bane of our existence, and every game against them they were talking about how much more athletic they were than us at every position, I was like why don't we bring in more athletic players? However now I see how the NBA in general values athleticism above everything else, that is why a Zach Levine goes high in the first even though he played behind Slo Mo at UCLA for the most part but now I realize that an idiot that can jump out of the gym really wouldn't work on the Spurs at all, so no Javell McGee types here. In retrospect if both players were on the board I strongly suspect Pop would still pick Slo Mo but I also think the Spurs would be the only team to do that if offered the choice. Not the Pop and RC are anti athleticism, because prime Manu and Tony were very athletic BUT there are things they value way more than that.

Good article. Feels true. If you haven't seen one more like him in 20 years, he probably is once in a generation or just the GOAT.

That's as good an article as I've ever read on Duncan. His personality is every bit as important as his IQ in making him who he is. They say a super-star is a guy who makes everyone around him better. I don't think anyone has ever done that part as well as Duncan. And he's a guy that everyone wants for a teammate. Unfortunately, there's no stat for team chemistry.

Whether or not Slow-Mo pans out for us (or more so, to what degree) remains to be seen yet, but the Spurs valued him highly and reportedly said he was among only 20 players they considered to have first round level talent in that draft. I suppose the other 10 in their list were nothing special.

They never said at what number specifically they had him ranked but they were gaga about him. Spurs were not going to draft just to get somebody, otherwise they would have chosen a foreign player.

I remember reading about Slow-Mo after he was drafted, and his UCLA coach literally gushed about him saying he had never coached a player that talented. He had good things to say about Lavine and Adams (obviously, since they were products of his program), but he was positively admiring of Slow-Mo.

Also, fans from Los Angeles who watched UCLA because local TV showed a lot of their games said that Anderson was among the most entertaining players to watch and he was clearly the best player in that particular team.

In their loss to Florida in the Sweet 16 round, Florida planned specifically to stop Anderson, and in reality, whenever Anderson was on the floor, UCLA was doing well, but they surrendered leads when he sat. Without Anderson, UCLA struggled to score.

Lavine disappeared from all critical games and was basically a nonfactor for UCLA down the stretch, meanwhile Anderson was "clutch", meaning he kept making play after play (for teammates as well, not necessarily for himself) to keep his team in the fight. The attention he got also made it easier for others to score.

At this point, he has had difficulty adapting bc of his lack of athleticism and yet there is no question he is a compe or. He improved significantly from last season, particularly defensively (a real question mark for him initially). It has just gone under the radar because he is not at all flashy and remains very unselfish. In all the hype and flash Simms has brought along this season, Anderson has gone unheralded.

But so much the better for him, because it should make him work harder on his game and not take anything for granted.

A very nice article about TD.
I don't think there will be another like him, bc like that article says from others who know him and have seen him train. It's not just the physical talent, but the mental, the leadership, the whole package is special and will remain unike.

There may be others that resemble him, but or maybe a trait or another will remind you of him in the future, but not the whole package ever.

    I. If someone were to write a book about the San Antonio Spurs, you'd want it to be Matt Bonner. The forward has been a Spur for longer than anybody not named Tim, Tony or Manu, and he's a gifted storyteller. Asked what the le of his theoretical book would be, he paused for a while and then had an idea.
I read Bill Wennington's book about the bulls 72 win season and it was great
