These guys decided to join Strong in a tenuous situation with shaky QB status.
Instead of begging them to come, I'm hoping they had a great plan that impressed all involved. I'm telling myself they do.

SuperK_TFB: Just chatted w @thatsean @Andrew_TFB about #Texas recruiting. Wow, what a difference having a new OC and OL coach have made.
From Matt Mattox bio on TexasSports.com,
"Prior to Coffeyville, Mattox was the offensive line/tight ends coach at Butler (Kansas) Community College. During five seasons with the school from 2007-11, he helped coach the program to four conference and NJCAA Region VI Championships. In his tenure, he coached 31 all-conference offensive linemen and six junior college All-Americans."
Can anybody verify this? It seems impossible to average 6 guys per year as All-Conference players?!
Quotes from CB Eric Cuffee after his official visit to UT (24/7):
“Overall, Texas and Texas A&M are the schools in the lead,” Cuffee said. “Austin is a great city, and UT has a great atmosphere. The business school is also an upside. A&M is more laid back, and they are in the SEC. Who wouldn’t want to play in the SEC?”
“I talked to Coach Strong a lot,” Cuffee said. “When he came to my house, we talked about pushing the decision back. He also talked to my dad and my stepmom. My mom and my two sisters came for the official, and he talked to us about the program and things like that. It was great.”
“Malik (Jefferson) was actually my host, and he was real with me,” Cuffee said. “He talked to me about the positives and negatives of not only Texas but other schools. He was real, and I appreciated that. I had a great time hanging out with him, DeShon (Elliott) and Holton (Hill).”
Update on TE Irvin Smith of New Orleans, LA after leaving Austin (24/7):
“The visit went really good,” Smith said. “I got a chance to meet all the coaches. My conversations with them went really well. It was just a good time. The players were all cool, too. Tyrone Swoopes answered a lot of my questions. It was great.”
“Coach Strong just told me that they don’t have a guy like me and that they could really use me,” Smith said. “Coach Traylor said I could have a big impact and be a part of something great at UT. Coach Gilbert talked to me about the offense and joked around. It was great.”
“I guess it changed things a little bit,” Smith said. “I don’t really want to talk too much about it right now. But Texas is a great university. The coaches and the players were all very welcoming.”
Inside Texas saying CB Eric Cuffee plans on returning to Austin on January 16th once the dead period ends.
That will be UT's next big recruiting weekend.
FWIW, 24/7 thinks S Devin Studstill of Palm Beach Gardens, FL will choose Notre Dame on Wednesday.
They feel LB David Reese of Farmington, MI will commit to Florida although there is still a bit of hope for UT.
If Reese pushes back his decision, that's a positive.
disappointing............
Only if you don't get Jackson, who's the much better prospect.
Problem is...he wants to wait until Signing Day.

Taylor Hamm reported that Eric Cuffee called the A&m staff to inform them he is no longer a silent commit! Texas could be the favorite now.
TFloss32 whats the traylor rumor from 247
A poster said he's heard he'll interview for a Co-OC job this week with an SEC school (not A&M).
I'll let you know if anything else comes of it.
Wilkerson of Scout said RB Kameron Martin tried to call him during the Gilbert press conference.
He wasn't able to answer the phone, but Martin claims "Texas coming hard."
Goddammit.

More on Jones:
Jones held offers from numerous top programs, and chose Texas over Arizona, Louisville, Baylor, and SMU. He's currently rated as the No. 38 prospect in the country, but that ranking will improve thanks to his continued improvement and production each time he steps on the floor. Texas' 2016 class is now up to three with Jones, guard Jacob Young, and big man James Banks. Young and Banks signed during the early period.
The interview is at Mizzou.
Inside Texas saying they're hearing this as well.
Hopefully that helps the cause with JARRETT ALLEN who is a must. Can't let an Austin kid leave the state.
Traylor needs a raise, we need to keep him.
More than anything, this program needs stability, and Strong needs to keep his good assistants.
By the sounds of it, Traylor was looking to leave Texas because Strong was receiving very little support and he was looking to get out of this mess. With what happened Friday night, a lot of these concerns about support towards Coach Strong have now been answered. Traylor will probably get a raise and everything will be ok.
