It's possible, but it sure feels like the last week has been building up to giving Danny a "DNP-Rest" game to allow JSim to audition for the starting gig.
The defense has obviously been outstanding. But the offense is the really surprising part of this.
To even non-casual observers, the offense seems stagnant and lackluster when compared to years past, especially with the starting unit. Yet somehow, the Spurs have managed to slow the pace and embrace the inefficient mid-range shot, which flies against the whole "pace and space" philosophy that is trending...and are still turning in a top 4 offense in terms of efficiency. I think we can also all agree that there is still much room for improvement.
With Aldridge still adjusting, Green still fighting his way out of a slump, and Anderson and Simmons continuing to develop, it's hard to say what the ceiling really is for this offense...and that's a frightening proposition for the rest of the league.

Well to play a little devil's advocate, we're 9th offensively when you adjust for strength of opponents' defense. And with only a 20-something game sample size, a few outliers (we moved up like 5 or 6 spots just after the 76ers game) can make things seem a bit better than they really are.
Regardless, I agree that the Spurs haven't come close to reaching their offensive ceiling. I think we'll be a top 10 offense by the end of the year, which is great considering I'm fairly confident we'll have the #1 defense in the league by a decent margin.
Time for that got STdalamon or whatever to come tell us how the Jazz have a better young core again...![]()
Didn't he double down on that a couple of weeks ago?
So you think they'll be no better by the end of the year, considering the Spurs are fourth (or ninth) now? I expect them to solidly be the third or fourth best offense by the end of the year, and to separate themselves in that category from the fifth spot. In my opinion, the current top four are the top four. Perhaps the Clippers (currently seventh) could get it together and challenge for the top five in offense, but who else in the league is going to get that much better on the offensive end?
He does it a couple times a year.
The "top 10 offense" part was meant to be a conservative estimate, meaning I think we'll at least finish somewhere in the top 10.
I think GS/Cleveland/OKC are the clear top 3 offenses in the league, but you're right in that after that, there really arean't any clear offensive juggernauts that the Spurs would struggle to be better than. Toronto or the Clippers would be the two best guesses, but those two aren't givens. In the end, I think we'll be somewhere in the 4-6 range assuming Aldridge continues to get more comfortable with his new role and Green finds his shot again.

I wonder about that, and I guess I will have to see it to believe it, not because of J.Simms, but really bc of Danny. His 3 & D is needed and he's being paid handsomely. You have to get something out of him from that $, and I am not convinced Danny does better with the bench. He's really played poorly with any lineup, and the bench already has 3 pt shooters in Patty, Manu and Boris. The starters only have Kawhi, and he is not going to be spotted up the whole time. On top of that, Danny is TO prone, and the bench alredy plays very chaotic with a lot of screening, and driving by all perimeter players and Boris. Those are not Danny's strengths.
I remain convinced if Danny is going to help us win a championship he has to be starting.
Simms is terrific off the bench, bc they already like to get easy buckets and run ahead in transition. That is a unit that needs to be gunning and running to keep leads, since they are not stout defensively.
Obviously just my opinion and I tend to think Pop will keep his experiments all season long until March when he starts to go with what really worked and trimming down what didn't.
I think we all are excited for this matchup![]()

This is how I feel when people start calling to insert Simmons into the starting lineup. Not only does the bench already have shooters, but also Green doesn't necessarily fit into their style of play. Sure, he may be the beneficiary of more open looks, but we have seen that he is not good in the free-flowing, drive and dish playmaking role that the bench excels at as a whole. I worry that inserting him into the bench lineup would be detrimental to the 2nd units ball movement, which has been the difference in several games so far this year.
Also, while Simmons' energy and athleticism is great, he is still not nearly the defender that Green is, even going against second and third string guys. He'd get lit up against a lot of the starting 2s in the league, and one thing the starting unit has been doing well is setting the defensive tone early.
I think the best we can do is hope that Green breaks out of the slump and starts finding new spots where he can get his shot.
I mean, why not give Danny a few games off at this point? We should win tonight easily. Or let him come off the bench.
I liken this to baseball, when you have a contact hitter who's underperforming from a key position (2nd, 4th, or 5th in the BO, etc). Sometimes just shaking up the routine is all it takes for the guy to catch fire. He's seeing different pitches and defenses and it snaps him out of it.
I could see Green being sat for a game then coming off the bench with Manu or Patty and just going off for 5-6 threes. He just needs his confidence back.
Green did fine last game iirc. Let's not call for his benching just yet. The Spurs have a top defense because of him.
Spurs rocking the the regular white home uni's tonight.
don't know what people see in J Simmons, guy is like 26 and still has no court awareness, just drives to the hoop regardless of anything...
He shot well last game and he played with the starters, but it was a game everyone was hitting so maybe it wasn't special.
We have to see if the trend is sustained and benching him is not going to help that confidence or the trend.
Silver uniforms are only for fri/sat home games
