I remember joking with ElNono last year that we were still in the early stages of the Bonner Era in San Antonio.
I think that's when Pop's contract is up.
Matt Bonner Will Continue Playing For As Long As He's Wanted
http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap...-As-Hes-Wanted"I understand that I’m getting up there in age, and I’m definitely on the later part of my career, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that this is my last year, or that doesn’t mean this isn’t my last year," said Bonner. "My plan, and it was the last two years really, is get through the year, see where I’m at physically, and see if I’m good enough where someone still wants me on the team.”
I remember joking with ElNono last year that we were still in the early stages of the Bonner Era in San Antonio.
Looking at Bonner through Pop's eyes: A guy who knows the system, is a great locker room guy and can coach the young guys, never complains about playing time, and can still fill-in with the starters (and be in the right spot) when needed, all on a minimal contract... That's a lot of pluses when the only real minus is one less roster spot.
You never know when he will come in handy during the playoffs. I can see him having an '03 Kerr playoff type of moment where he goes off in some crucial game.
Bonner is going to outlast them all.
Post-apocalypse, the Red Rocket will be still shooting hoops.
Nah, that's SpurPadre
I don't know if he ever got a new computer after Becky got hired.
meh, i think he is done after this season but will climb up upstairs in front office..he has already prepared for is post-playing career by taking managament/broadcasting courses and seminars in the summer..

Fwiw...Fabbs has been on the Bonner hate wagon longer. He was photoshopping Pop/Bonner wedding photos back in 2008 iirc.
Duncan and Bonner taking over for Popovich after he retires. Book it
Sure, but I don't think he can match the intensity of SPs pure hatred for the Red Rocket.
Bonner wouldn't have lasted this long, especially surviving that 09-11 turd era, without being Pop's pet..He is definitely sticking with Spurs in some capacity after retirement.. too much corporate knowledge, tbh.. less-tenured Spurs folks kept coming and going to our program post retirement, let alone the Red Rocket and his decade-long service...
"Why is the Red Rocket leaving so soon?" 'At the end of the world there will two things left alive Matt Bonner and Keith Richards,' to paraphrase Bill Hicks.
Bonner generated the hate when he was part of Pop's stretch-4 experiment, leaving the Spurs with pathetic size (Bonner and Blair) and rebounding when Duncan sat. It failed because Bonner was not an elite starter, and his play deteriorated as the season wore on ('Winter Shoes'). His defense, other than in the post, was also not great due to physical limitations.
Bonner would have been a decent starter for a decent team, but Spur fans became accustomed to championships. And Pop's experiment was ill-timed given the Bynum-Pau era. The upside is that I think Pop learned from his mistakes and finally brought back a two-tower approach.
Bonner changed the game PRECISELY because he came in during the Pau/Bynum character. The Spurs and Lakers were 8-8 against each other between 2007-2008 and 2011-2012 (and still 6-6 if you exclude 2007-2008), and the Spurs took the lead after that. That spacing from a mediocre player could match elite size was driven home against Memphis after 2011.
Bonner is hated because when he came into the league, people didn't know what spacing/gravity really meant to an offense. His impact has always been understated. He's had plenty of bad moments, but he did a lot of good for the team as well.
I don't know man. Really don't see neither Duncan or Bonner yelling "Shut the UP" at a player like Pop does.

No, I've seen the light about her and my main issue with her was only the day her hiring was announced and answered as soon as she was given the chance to do her job and hear the other coaches' insights about her NBA knowledge...and I never had a meltdown about her in the first place. Bonner on the other hand...

Poor Danny. That game doesn't go to OT without Danny playing one his very best games, but Pop did not want to hear his explanation for that foul.
Thank you. I wear that as a badge of honor.
I take it you haven't seen that TMZ Sports clip of TD telling Baynes to shut the up after they went clubbing after Game 7 last season.
TP sure got a kick out of it.
