Media doesn't want to give back to back DPOY's unless someone is head and shoulders above (which Leonard may be; but doubtful they see it that way). It may as well go to Timmy. He deserves the lifetime achievement award.

Kawhi with the goods. Timmy should have won it before though, but sadly, from an unbiased point of view, this is Kawhi's award to lose. Kawhi might very well be the NBA's next winner of a DPOY and MVP in the same season, I think Jordan was the last to do so.

Lifetime achievement award? Kawhi's award to lose? Duncan is the one leading the entire NBA in DRPM, tbh. http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/DRPM

Although Tim has better per-minute numbers, sometimes, the volume does count. Kawhi does more, simply because he plays more minutes, and the media could see this as a better, more ulative effect. I love my man Timmy but Kawhi has been the main cornerstone of this team, and his defense has a more offensive impact, if you know what I mean.

Sure but it's not set in stone. It's a pretty close call, tbh.

MJ did it in 1988. I thought he did it more than once, but apparently, that was the only year. I'm not sure if any other player has done it.

those guys were legit, Ben Wallace wasn't. Wallace got most of his blocks from the help side, frequently lost his man, instigated the Malice at the Palace, and got schooled by Shaq and Duncan in two straight Finals series. Massively overrated

DPOY must be the most repeated award in NBA history, tbh.

Tim is still the best rim protector, Kawhi on the other hand is the Dion Sanders of the NBA.

That's b/c reputation & blocks play a large part since the media folks voting don't watch every game. A perimeter defender would absolute have to shutdown star player to get a shine just like Kawhi ripping Curry last season.

Duncan would have to shill like Kobe.he plays too few minutes and shares a stage with a surprisingly good Aldridge. Kawhi is a highlight reel and the stats he produces are drool worthy.

It's probably kawhi's award to lose

Dwight led a team which had a bunch of defensively inept players to the Finals. He basically manned the paint all by himself b/c his frontcourt running mates were Rashard Lewis/Hedo

^^ Prime Dwight was one of the 5 best defensive presences of all-time, tbh..

There's virtually no chance that Duncan wins DPOY..he couldn't win it in his prime, there's no way they will give it to him at his current age and minutes/games played IMO..it's a hype-based award, and Kawhi is the most recognized defensive force in the NBA, right now..

Duncan is definitely playing elite D, and covers the asses for the whole team, but Leonard has the momentum of the hype train behind him.
