He'll retire after next season, possibly this one. 20 years next year.
Just passed Shaq for 6th place all-time. Dirk's quietly getting up there. I believe he can continue with this play considering his jump shooting style. He might end up playing 3-4 years and pass the Kobester![]()

Dirk has been relatively tough despite being in the league for a long, long time. The fact that he doesn't use a lot of athleticism, and is not called to play outstanding defense, makes him an excellent prime scorer in the league. Still not many 7-footers who can shoot jumpers, and shoot them well. I hope Dirk stays in the league for 3-4 years and put himself 3rd leading scorer of all-time. That would be a great achievement for the Wunderkind, such an underappreciated player in the league.
Product of Carlisle's system and free throws tbh
he said he'd play out his contact. which is for two more seasons. then consider retiring.
He hasn't been able to sustain his form past the All-star break for the past couple of seasons so we'll see. He basically has been clowned on by Tiago/Josh Smith in back-to-back postseasons.![]()
Dirks knees are gone. If he plays one more year his production probably won't get him
up the list far.
...but he was already an elite scorer long before Carlisle became his coach. If anything, he was already past his prime when Carlisle joined.
I just put that bc Mavs fans use that same excuse with Timmy
Switch Dirk & Tim and Spurs have 5+ championships

Tip: you do not want to type "Dirk Duncan system" on Twitter...![]()

I've heard "SysTim" for awhile now toodumb ass gots
Only product of a system is Kobe. Tbh. He always spent his whole career in the lottery without daddy Phil holding his hand
Duncan WAS the system from 1998-2010
It was Finley that ditched Dirk to ride Tim's coattails to a championship
-Didn't Dirk have 4 All-Stars in the PRIMES (Walker/Nash/Jaimson/Finley) & ended up getting bounced 4-1 in the 1st rd by Bibby (Webber's knee were shot in '04)
-The Mavs were better off w/ Najera in the line-up rather than Dirk back in '03 when Tim single handily demolished the Mavs that they decided to triple team him late in the series leading to the "Steve Kerr Game"
-He was also outplayed by Caron Bulter when the Spurs upset them in 2010 (despite Dirk having Butler/Marion/Terry/Kidd) w/ George Hill throwing a dagger in Dirk's face. (Tyson Chandler turned them into a championship team as the rest of their roster remained the same)

Duncan led a team with Stephen Jackson as his second best scorer to a championshipended the Shaq/Kobe three peat as well that year
Dirk fans cry a lot about him not having enough help. Like he was KG in Minnesota. Nash, Kidd, Van Exel, Terry, Finley, Josh Howard, Jamison, Walker, Chandler, Marion, Peja, Ellis, Rondo, Carter, Butler, Parsons, Mathews etc.
Definitely got more help in F/A than Tim ever did. All the help Duncan got in his prime was Robinson late in his career, some late first and second rounders, Bowen, and replaceable Centers post Robinson
People act like Dirk played w/ a bunch of scrubs in 2011 when Terry was breaking 3 point records, Barea was unstoppable from getting into the paint & Kidd/Marion/Tyson were as good a trio of defenders as there were during that period (that team was a defensive minded team who hit timely shots). They even had Caron Bulter but he got injured mid-season & DeShawn Stevenson player well on both end. Shyt, even Peja won them a game.
Dirk was basically their designated hitter & actually got outplayed by Wade (who was slowed down in gm 5/6 after Brian Cardinal injured his hip w/ a dirty foul). Dirk shot 41% for the series & 9/27 in the closeout game but folks want to make it seem like he put up Wilt Chamberlain stats (Hibbert put up better number against Bosh). It was all thanks to LeBron for gift wrapping Dirk his only ring by his inability to post up JJ Barea
. I did enjoy Dirk destroying Kirby & the Lakers.
The 2011 Heat was such an embarrassing roster tbh
Starting Five in the playoffs:
C Joel Anthony
PF Chris Bosh
SF young beta Lebron James
SG Dwyane Wade
PG Mike Bibby
Lebron was a choker then and got outscored by Jason Terry in the finals lmao
but Dirk had no help

The Heat were a totally different team w/ Battier/Ray Allen b/c that allowed them to play small-ball & scramble on defense. LeBron got outscored by JJ Barea in the 4th quarter. It was Barea/Terry (not Dirk) that closed out Gm 5 & took over Gm 6.
Dirk won't catch Kobe, Kobe is going to retire with close to 34k. Dirk would have to continue his play for 3 more years. Not going to happen.
This is true. Dirk was in his prime in 05-07, he was past his prime by 09 but his playoff performances got better by then.
This is probably one of the worst takes in ST history, probably a bait as well but I'll bite.
>Didn't Dirk have 4 All-Stars in the PRIMES (Walker/Nash/Jaimson/Finley) & ended up getting bounced 4-1 in the 1st rd by Bibby (Webber's knee were shot in '04)
Nice try, but Nash's back was ed up, Jamison never fit in, Finley was about 5 years past this prime and Walker was an average player.
>-The Mavs were better off w/ Najera in the line-up rather than Dirk back in '03 when Tim single handily demolished the Mavs that they decided to triple team him late in the series leading to the "Steve Kerr Game"
Oh sure, a 25.6 PER superstar doesn't have as much impact on his team as a bench scrub.
>-He was also outplayed by Caron Bulter when the Spurs upset them in 2010 (despite Dirk having Butler/Marion/Terry/Kidd) w/ George Hill throwing a dagger in Dirk's face. (Tyson Chandler turned them into a championship team as the rest of their roster remained the same)
In that series, Dirk: PER of 28, .643 TS%, 27/8.
Caron Butler: 17.8 PER, 53 TS%. Totally outplayed that Irk Noringski
If you're going to post, then at least pull the numbers from the GSW series, you big black clown.

-Jamison was the 6th man of the year, didn't fit in
-Nash's back was ed up: Webber's knees were ed up
-Walker was an average player: All-Star Walker became average playing w/ Dirk then outplayed him in the 2006 when it mattered
-Finely was 5 years past his prime: Finely set a career high for 3 pointers made & was the best periemter defender on the team in '03-'04!After Cuban dumped him when his knees buckled from carrying the Mavs, Finley led the Spurs in 3 pointers made in '05-'06 & in the '07 postseason when they won the chip b/c Tim makes everyone better even Dirk's trashes
The only missing from the 2000-04 Mavs was a defensive anchor........like Timmay/KG!
-Tim beat the Lakers & won a le w/ the test supporting cast in NBA history
-KG carried past-prime Spree & a gimpy Cassell (KG turned him into an All-Star) to the WCF while playing every position including point guard! He barely lost to the Lakers w/ FOUR 1st ballot HOFers, not a team led by Mike Bibby.
Oh yeah, how could have I forgotten PER factor in defenseOh sure, a 25.6 PER superstar doesn't have as much impact on his team as a bench scrub.. You might want to go back & rewatch the series b/c Tim mauled the Mavs w/ Dirk playing help defense. His net rating was a NEGATIVE (ORtg: 104, DRtg: 109)
& Najera had a neutral net rating (ORtg: 104, DRtg:104). Finley meanwhile ORtg: 127
, DRtg: 109.
Boxscore Bobby, that was one of those "empty stat" series for Dirk aka the Tony Parker special. Butler was the one that carried the Mavs on his back in Gm 5 to give them a fighting chance of winning the series while Dirk was resigned to getting bounced in the 1st yet again. In that series, Dirk: PER of 28, .643 TS%, 27/8.
Caron Butler: 17.8 PER, 53 TS%.
Somebody got their panties in bunchesIf you're going to post, then at least pull the numbers from the GSW series, you big black clown., Dirk is about to retire as the only HOFer/Finals MVP who never won a single series after winning his only championship.
How fitting for Dirk to be setting empty milestones
but he's still the 2nd best player of his generation only behind Timmay.

Maybe but he'll still be surpassed by LeBron and Durant.
Same could be said about Jim with Pop tbh.
Or rapist and Phil + big men tbh
I would go back even further, like 03-07. I.e. the Don Nelson/Avery Johnson days.
