Apple to pay Italy 318 million euros, sign tax deal

U.S. tech giant Apple will pay Italy's tax office 318 million euros ($348 million) to settle a dispute and sign an accord next year on how to manage its tax liabilities from 2015, a source with direct knowledge of the matter said on Wednesday.

Italian prosecutors have been investigating allegations that Apple failed to pay corporate taxes to the tune of 879 million euros, sources told Reuters earlier this year.

"Apple will pay the tax agency 318 million euros and will sign an accord for fiscal years 2015 onwards early next year," the source said.

Why did the government settle for like 1/3 of what they thought they were owed? Its not like Apple couldn't afford to pay it all or most of it.

Avoiding taxes isn't illegal. Evading taxes is. If Apple or any other company avoids taxes and obeys the law, then fair game. People do that same as individuals.

as the NYT article I posted showed, the 1% and BigCorp PURCHASE their favorable tax breaks not available to the 99%.

"Nothing wrong legally" when you're buying, writing the hyper-complex, 100% opaque enrich-myself laws.

As The Old Lesbian from secessionist slave state SC said, paraphrase, "every American's duty is to America by not paying taxes."

Boo, do you calculate your taxes and then add a couple of zeros to the check because it's patriotic to pay more than you owe?

    GFY

The question is "Boo, do you have a small army of expensive tax lawyers, accountants to exploit the tax laws that you paid legislators to write in your favor?"

GFY, about whom we are NOT talking.

you're STILL missing the point. the taxes the 1% and BigCorp "have to pay" have been rigged in their favor.

Apple criminally screwing Italy out of $100Ms and 10Ks of Americans caught criminally evading taxes through Switzerland and other tax evading havens PROVE taht the 1%, BigCorp DON'T PAY their taxes, even AFTER rigging tax laws in their favor.

Bishop Gecko Romeny refused to release his tax returns because, NO BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT, he got caught evading taxes, like any p/e predator.

Technically I am probably in the 1% so when you rave and foam at the mouth about the 1% I am going to respond.

i will probably pay more taxes for 2015 than your entire ing net worth and I damn sure don't feel like I'm getting my moneys worth.

There are $100Bs every year, even $Ts being sucked up (and UNDERtaxed) by the 1%, essentially $Ts taken out of the productive Real Economy (investment, goods, housing, wages, consumption) and into the members-only, systemically-risky BigFinance casino with chips floating around now in the $100Ts.

There's plenty of thieving by BigCorp and BigFinance to screw the 99%. Democracy has been gutted, voters disenfranchised, govt has been corrupted, purchased, and America is ed and un able.

Bernie, and Warren, are attacking the rigging, the corruption, and People Like You and other rightwingnut offs, even the ones being ed daily by the system, are fighting to maintain the system.

Bernie and Warren are advocating even more irresponsible federal spending. Most people unlike idiots like Boo get it. It is not the role of the US federal government to become the socialist big daddy of the populace.

they advocate taxing the vastly undertaxed BigCorp and 1% and spending the money on, investing in the Real Economy. they also advocate reducing the systemically dangerous power, monopolies, wealth of BigCorp.

CC eternally supporting BigCorp and 1% screwing everybody.

Warren, Sanders, etc advocate more regulation, disempowering the too-big-jail, systemically dangerous orgs, exactly the opposite of the deregulation, laissez-faire (screw you) of neo-liberalism. It's neo-liberalism that has brought the 99% to its knees.

make all banks divest from insurance ( you Sandy Weill), re-instate Glass-Steagall, make a law against "bail in", and increase banks' capital reserves even more.

make law that any big bank that fails will be taken over by the Feds and turned into a non-profit banking "utility" like BND.

make participation in commodities illegal unless you are in that commodity's businesa and will take delivery of the commodity.

    make high speed trading illegal

put a "sales tax" on all stock trades.

triple the budget, staffing of CFPB

if you originate a mortgage, you're tatooed with it, you service the mortgage to term.

    make CDOs illegal.

    , even make short-selling illegal.
