The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that the NSA under President Obama targeted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his top aides for surveillance. In the process, the agency ended up eavesdropping on “the contents of some of their private conversations with U.S. lawmakers and American-Jewish groups” about how to sabotage the Iran Deal. All sorts of people who spent many years cheering for and defending the NSA and its programs of mass surveillance are suddenly indignant now that they know the eavesdropping included them and their American and Israeli friends rather than just ordinary people.

    "NSA under President Obama"

the NSA/CIA aren't "under" any President. They are a secret govt unto themselves, and like the MIC, out of control of the nominal government.

Now who's being naive? With all this terrorism going on, aren't there better things to be doing than spying on Netanyahu and US lawmakers about how to sabotage the Iran Deal. Who has the most vested interest in the Iran Deal that's ordering this spying?

So spying on US citizens is OK, despite the 4th amendment but spying on certain foreigners is outrageous?

There's not very much terrorism going on. Much less than the 1970s, in fact.

What's the criteria you're using to determine that (i.e. global, national, fatalities, acts perpetrated, casualties, membership etc.)?

He's right. Terrorism was outrageous in the 1970s whether international or domestic. The big difference now is better preparation. No one was prepared back in the 70s which was why it was more rampant and successful. It was a new art form to wage war or fear among government ins utions.
