Taking the time to do that on his day off is pretty cool of him. My overall take is there might be some starters out there that can give us trouble, but can they play 48 minutes a game? I'm just hopeful he stays around as long as possible. It's selfish of me to want that, but at this point, being a fan of these guys for so long.... Their success in the sport is second to admiring the kind of people they are.
So so reading that line gives me hope, haha. Because I was thinking this would be his last run no matter what.
I thought that b4 but it was mostly bc last season was so disappointing and the second half he didn't really get in rhythm, not was he as impactful in the playoffs as we are accustomed to seeing. I really had my doubts he would return at all. Tim announced he was coming back early and there wasn't much doubt he could play if he so wanted to. Manu took a long time and his last interviews were full of uncertainty. I think right now with the new roster and young guys to help he's reinvigorated and he hasn't had to carry the team through stretches like last December which were very draining.
So long as he's pacing himself and not asked to carry a weak roster, he can play another year, but we'll see. It's going to be personal too and the season is nit over yet. Lots can still happen.
Manu makes a good point at the end of the article about how tough this upcoming week is. First, an away game at Brooklyn against a team that just fired their coach and will be playing inspired basketball. Second, an away game in Detroit on the 2nd night of a back to back playing against a Pistons team that is one of the best in the league at home. And to cap it off, a home against Cleveland, playing in our 3rd game in 4 nights.
All in all, it will be a very difficult week. We could very well go 1-2.

He said exactly what I've been feeling. No matter what happens when the Spurs face them in the regular season, it won't matter come playoff time. Adjustments get made, injuries happen, rotations might change, etc..
The regular season games should be entertaining but I wouldn't put much stock in them.
Manu isn't worried about some regular season game and recognizes that the team can compete with the Warriors regardless of their record. In the meantime they should focus on bettering themselves. Makes sense to me.

My admiration for these guys definitely goes beyond their hoops skills. Now them being the most winning team in all sports for the last 15+ doesn't exactly upset me!

Pop and TD have been around since I was a kid, so no matter how old I get, I'll always see them as role models along with all the other casts that have rotated around them. I can't really remember the person I was in 1999, but I remember being at the parade and watching the games. and yeah, I don't think most people, and not even every spurs fan understands this side of the team. I guess all of this can sound overly sentimental and corny to people.
Being the same age and just only playing the game once a week now I can so much relate to that ...

Here's a good question to ask yourself. We all know that the NBA is entertainment. When you watch the Spurs when Manu is on the court, do you feel like he gives you good entertainment value for your money. Damn right he does. There are times when he reaches down into himself and pull off a play that gives you a thrill to see it. Maybe not as often as in the past, but he still does things that NOBODY on the team can pull off.
That's why he's Manu Ginobilli

Lately, and this is personal probably, one of the things that I like the most about him (and TD) is how much they enjoy playing with and watching young teammates develop. Sometimes the young reserves are playing in garbage time and I watch Manu and he's giving instructions to Anderson (when Pop is just letting the young guys play fairly freely and do their thing so long as they don't give up leads). When he plays with them, after a mistake by them he would point out what they were supposed to be doing. The value of that kind of teaching for young players is incalculable.
