Candidates: Per Basketball insiders click here

    2012 Bulls?
    1994 Sonics?
    1999 Heat ?
    2007 Mavs?
    2011 Spurs?

    I'll add 2015 Spurs

Put these team in a tournament round robin style (current nba rules) who wins?
What if hand checking was allowed? Heat or Sonics?

    Discuss.

Your poor attempt at trolling aside, it's the 2007 Mavs. 2011 Spurs hit a bad match up like the Mavs did, but most non homer fans admitted they were fools gold before the playoffs started.

Not so much fool's gold as injured like crazy. Manu broken arm, Tim and Tony both suffering through injuries that had knocked them out of like 10-15 games each near the end of the season. And the Grizzlies were the worst possible matchup for us that year because their defense was ridiculous.

2011 Spurs team was arguably the greatest Spurs team ever until about 2/3 of the way through the season when our core players started dropping like flies. We started out 39–6 Manu was playing at a near MVP level until March.

i dont troll. only thing you can argue is that it's a "response thread" to one that is already posted here ... but a troll thread this is not. I was just looking at something else on bball insiders and came across the article. I really loved those old Sonics teams When the Lakers were in the ter they were my 2nd favorite team I modeled my game after the Glove (on defense).

So the real question is that Sonics team the best and their failure the biggest upset or were they overrated and team like the Spurs of last year crush them?

2007 Mavs. 2011 Spurs were injured (Manu broke his arm the last game of the season). While the Spurs were good that year, they weren't in the playoffs due to said freak injury. Then again, I didn't think they'd win the le or anything even had that not happened. It was just nice to see them play well for the first time since like 2008.

    Great points, Kidd.
Do you think that Mavs team could beat those Sonics teams?
Are the sonics overrated because of my youthful fascination?
Were they just like the modern day OKC ...doomed to fail despite a great guard and forward combo? (a la stockton/Malone?)

dont be sensitive, Bum. Them 2013 Lakers were ty and would get rolled by any of the squads on this list. Be a man answer the question ... which of these squads are best?

The 2015 Spurs have to be pretty high up that list. A +6.3 SRS even with all those injuries and they were the defending champs. It still hurts

I think we could have won it that year, only because that was the big down year for the NBA. There really weren't any legit dominator teams that year outside of us pre-injuries and the Bulls but we all knew the Bulls weren't beating the Heat. The Heat didn't quite have it together yet, it was the first year of the Heatles. That was the only year in recent memory where the championship was relatively wide open.

See I'm not sure. I started watching NBA back in the early 90's too (I still remember trading 3 Reggie Miller cards for a Jordan once, LOL), but the Sonics never scared me too much that year. I remember them suddenly being good but I think they overachieved a bit. I thought they were a better team after that year as their guys got more established. The Mavs on the other hand were already established and were looking super deadly. . .losing that year really hurt their rep and had everyone calling them "regular season champs". Dirk's legacy took a big hit too 'til he repaired it with an eventual le.

I would lean towards 2007 Mavs as being better. Actually yeah, for sure 2007 Mavs. The Sonics lost early but that was still "best of 5" time I believe so it's not as much of a travesty as the Mavs getting KOed early imo.

Probably the 2015 Spurs and 2007 Mavs.

I don't really think the 2011 Spurs were that good.

Richard Jefferson was awesome for us in the RS, but went MIA in the playoffs for whatever reason

Not sure, amb. I was pretty young that year and wasnt that year Magic had the knee injury?
Anyways the candidates were pulled from BBinsiders and I added the 2015 Spurs since the article predates 2015... if you have an issue reach out to them ...

But licker played 42 minutes a night that series, doesn't sound injured unless you count the date of HIV infection?

Has to be the Sonics since nobody was injured & they had two guys in their primes (Payton/Kemp). The '07 Mavs won a bunch of close game during the regular season & they didn't really have a legit All-Star outside of Dirk, same w/ the Bulls (Rose) & Heat (Alonzo) so if you shutdown one player they were going to be in trouble.

Both Spurs squads were derailed by injuries.

not sure of the particulars ...but if those are the facts they should be considered. Not sure why people take this as such an insult. IF amb and you are right then yes, the 1981 Lakers should be on this list and are probably the best team on this list ... and would probably beat all the other teams which was the original question ... no disgrace in that ..there are some really good though somewhat flawed teams on this list.

In 1981 I watched hoops but only rarely because you know, I was a kid... sure they had flaws too ..
