I'm gettign tired of guys attacking Leonard. He has never said anything bad about anyone in the media and just ignores it. If Leonard is not a factor at defending Lebron, then WHY DOES HE REQUEST SCREENS SO MUCH TO GET LEONARD OFF OF HIM? Surely a "system defensive player" is someone he can dominate without needing screens right? He wasn't requesting screens for Tashaun Prince when he was tearing his asshole open in teh 2007 ECF game 5. One point during the game last night, Lebron wouldn't even consider trying to score if a screen wasn't coming to get leonard off of him so these guys need to shut the up.
Yeah. James needs screens. Kawhi needs someone to show out. One on one Kawhi would kill Lebron most of the time.

It doesn't jibe with what I saw yesterday, though. Duncan wasnt bailing Kawhi out. In the few instances when James actually got by Leonard, it was Leonard contesting at the rim coming from behind, not Duncan for the most part.
you weren't watching then. For the most part Kawhi was forcing lebron to pick one side, where Duncan would come and contest. Which is good D, but what would happen if we had David Lee there...

classy. Don't see anything wrong with what he said.
If someone would have given young Tony Allen more opportunities, he would become into Kobe....

It's too hard for some players admit Kawhi has the talent, the desire, and the ability to improve.

Everybody doesn't improve," Popovich said before a recent Spurs' game in Minnesota. "You know, some guys can't learn and there's a lot of guys that have been talented that haven't made it in the league or made it for just a short time because they couldn't go to the next step or continue to get better."
"But he has a great capacity to absorb things and he works hard. He comes early to practice; he stays after. Our development guys work with him constantly and he wears them out. He really wants to be good and he's got some talents to work with, so that's a good combination.”

Spur fans who pretend Kawhi is perfect are player fans.
He's not perfect for sure, but that guy saying "it happened PLENTY of times last night" is...

TBF there is a lot of truth in THIS thread. Typical Spurfan buys the 2nd coming of the glove hype. The DPOY trophy should go to 1a and 1b Tim and then Kawhi
Not really tbh. If you are going to count that against him, than you have to account for players taking the whole possession just to screen kawhi out of the ballhandler. Barely anyone tries to face Kawhi in one on one isolation, and for good reason, they just end up looking stupid and overmatched. Everyone.

He's obviously referring to guys who have the ability to get better but don't have the same opportunity as other guys (like Paul George or Butler). I don't think he meant anything by it.

For a good reason LeBron's Usg vs Kawhi is just 10%

Kawhi is the best one on one defender in the league, but he also has probably the most intelligent help defense on his side too.
Funny that Kawhi's also one of the best help defenders in the league...that deadly combo makes him so great.

People here don't like PtR but I find this article very interesting.

Are you talking about when he was helped out? I watched the game and I don't think that Lebron had zero points. I'll check the stats to see if he did. I thought he had 22 points. Who completely smashed Kawhi then since he only had less than half as many points? Because if Lebron was stopped then Kawhi must have been obliterated.

I guess I'll have to. Maybe I am getting old becuase I thought I saw Lebron casually stroll through everyone to dunk the ball. Another time I thought I saw him head to the base line while Kawhi just froze almost going in the opposite direction.

It's clear we didn't watch the same game. Also, like I've said before, LeBron USG% against Kawhi shows there weren't many of those situations.

Just out of curiosity, plenty of times mean just...2?

So just a coincidence that the defense is so much better with Kawhi on the team? Tim's presence had been a constant with good and mediocre defense versions of the spurs. But he's still awesome (I'm no player fan like you appear to be).
Kawhi's defense RPM is 4.29, which is among the best; but TD's is 6.17, the best in NBA. No statistics is perfece, but this DRPM is a very good indicator of how much a team relies one player for their defense. That TD & Kawhi are 1A and 1B for the Spur's best defense is a fair assessment. That Tim had been playing in (relatively) bad defense teams does not mean he is not valuable for the Spurs. The same thing for Kawhi, because TD is always there behind him. Since Kawhi's rookie year, TD has actually played MORE games than him.

Casual fans say Spurs got no media love but Tom Haberstroh has seriously been carrying the Spurs flag all over ESPN for some time now.
Yes, he has which has been nice to hear. Well, someone has to with Amin and Ethan always caping for the warriors and being sarcastic about their disdain for the spurs.

You also have to look at total raw stats.

    Defensive Win Shares
    1. Kawhi Leonard ▪ SAS 3.4
    2. Andre Drummond ▪ DET 3.1
    3. Hassan Whiteside ▪ MIA 2.7
    4. Paul George ▪ IND 2.6
    5. DeAndre Jordan ▪ LAC 2.5
    6. Draymond Green ▪ GSW 2.5
    7. Tim Duncan ▪ SAS 2.4
    8. LaMarcus Aldridge ▪ SAS 2.4

    Kawhi wins this hands down.
