Indirectly calling Leonard a system player:

    http://www.expressnews.com/sports/co...witter-premium

    ...

when asked if Leonard ever changes how he defends him, James shrugged.

"No, no, never changes," James said, and then he swerved away from Leonard.

"Their defense did a good job keeping me off balance," James said. "What also doesn't change is Tim Duncan behind him, as well. When you have a system like that …"

All valid points. The Spurs have long relied on a smart defensive system that adjusts on the fly, and Duncan has been the anchor of it. Still, doesn't Leonard have something to do with James' below-average stats against the Spurs?

James continued to explain all of the advantages that Leonard has: "Also, he's never left alone. There's nobody in our league that's left alone. He also has a great supporting cast behind him, that's talking to him, letting him know what is going on behind him. Even if I'm able to get around him, I know Timmy D is protecting the rim."

    ....

to be fair, it's easier to defend when you know a big man can bail you out

Not taking anything away from MVPKiwi but Lebron has a valid point

Obviously, human turnstile Porker always counst on Timmy to bail him out

Reminds me of all the people who hated Bruce Bowen. In a way, it's a sign of a good defender getting into their head. Kawhi just doing his job!

It doesn't jibe with what I saw yesterday, though. Duncan wasnt bailing Kawhi out. In the few instances when James actually got by Leonard, it was Leonard contesting at the rim coming from behind, not Duncan for the most part.

Kawhi is the system and the system is Kawhi. Spurs are one unit, one system.

He's absolutely right. Leonard covered him really closely and relied on Tim to help when lebron beat him. Tim played excellent defense all night.

So we could have sat Leonard and plugged in Anderson, Green, Butler, or Simmons and the system would have taken care of Lebron. Maybe Pop should try this strategy more often.

WERD...Timmy is in his 18th season and turns 40 in April, and he is still an elite defensive player...even at his age, there are few that protect the rim as well as he does. What he has lost in quickness, he more than makes up for with savvy.

I'm really gonna miss him when he finally retires. GUARANTEED first-ballot HOF.

I guess that's why they ran screen after screen to get Kawhi away from The Queen. Lebron consistently can't score over Kawhi. Lebrons only offensive skill is charging into the lane and making layups

The worlds biggest crybaby can say what he wants but I don't see him huffing and puffing in the 4th against other teams or asking to come out for a breather. Not many players have the guts to pick LeBron up fullcourt and harass him the whole way down.

Some people are not giving Kawhi enough credit. Any other perimeter defender with Tim Duncan behind and Lebron goes to work easy.

Casual fans say Spurs got no media love but Tom Haberstroh has seriously been carrying the Spurs flag all over ESPN for some time now.

He didn't say kawhi was a great player because he is a compe ive person..... Why would he? Everything he said was factual. Don't see anything wrong with him not sucking kawhi off..... He knows he's a great defender but it isn't in his interest to say so.

Well if the Spurs are no different from any other team why does he do so much worse against them?
