Frames per second, It is the number of images displayed on a screen per second resulting in what appears to the eye to be smoother video picture. There is widespread debate and to some extent it varies from person to person as to what the minimum fps to display a smooth non jerky video picture is. For most people somewhere between 25 and 45 frames per second is enough for fairly smooth motion to be perceived however they will also agree that a higher rate produces a better image. Other people find that the lower rates are perceived by them as individual pictures resulting in jerky movement and eyestrain/headaches.
