I don't think they realized the great discrepancy between Jimmer and Corpse's games; and they made the cardinal mistake of doubling down on Corpse (to not appear to throw away a second rounder even though that's exactly what they did).
Corpse Fredette made the cardinal mistake of sucking more than anyone else. The Spurs made the only logical call by cutting the guy who sucked the worst.
Jimmer has a streak of at least 21 free throws made in a row as he has pushed his percentage to a league leading 93.1. And the Spurs could've had him to ice games. Instead, they went with Butler and Corpse McCallum.
You do realize that in order to "ice" a game with FT's, you have to force an NBA-level player to foul you? If they just blow up your shot, your FT% really doesn't make a bit of difference.

Actually given McCallum's usage, it's hard to say that Fredette didn't make it because of lack of talent... It's just that the Spurs prefered to lose face on their Fredette signing than on their McCallum signing. They are equally useless.

Says you. Spurs disagreed. Ray, at least, is a younger player with only 2 years experience. His upside is still somewhat debateable based upon youth. Jimmer is working on his fifth pro season, and can't find a ten day contract. So, there seems to be some doubt about his upside with the entirety of the NBA, as well. You say it cut and dried, but that don't make it true.
How many nba players are drafted then don't turn into good nba players. Many. If your logic was correct, every player drafted or on a team would be considered having a higher ceiling than anyone else. That is also not true.
Again it comes down to luck and cir stance. Butler or ray are not better than jimmer, if.so why didn't they have better college careers? Luck and cir stance maybe?
I'm not sure that's what I said. But, do we want a college player? I thought NBA teams were looking for NBA players. Jimmer has been on 4 NBA teams, at least, and they didn't want to keep him. Any team could pick him up, and they don't want him. Of course chance and luck play into it, but he's had twice the chances as Ray, and still hasn't stuck. They had the same chance on the same teams, and on The Spurs, chose Ray over Jimmer on the same team.
College and the NBA are two different things. Ray and Butler are better NBA players than Jimmer.
At this point I would say that they are all bad nba players
