Nothing really. Two teams who've basically never played together playing 48 minutes of garbage time basketball. It's disgusting.
To begin with, this is NOT a Kobe bash thread (or any other player bash thread). I think he deserves to be in this all star game.... but changes need to be made to make the all star game more interesting. I'd like to see some of your ideas on how to improve the all star game... Having said that, here is mine.
1. Keep the fan votes, but only the single top player from each conference gets selected... the team captain if you will.
2. Those 2 players (east/west) then use social media (or whatever) to give their top 3 coaches in their respective conferences for fans to vote on.
3. Once the coach is selected, the coach and player then make a list at each position in their respective conference (maybe 3-5 players at each position) on the players they would like to represent for their conference and have the fans vote on them.
4. Make the all star game a serious affair by giving bonuses to players and making it an official conference le, only the winning conference team gets the player bonus.
I'd be much more interested in watching them play SERIOUS basketball, defense and all, than the circus act it is now.
essentially, make it a street ball pickup game with serious implications.

The starting 5 for the West has Durant at Center, Kawhi at Power Forward, Kobe at Small Forward, and two Point Guards... it's pretty silly. Maybe start there.
Blacks vs. non-Blacks, tbh..
Letting the fans vote an honorary captain for each team would be a good idea, regardless of conference. Duncan and Kobe being team captains this year would be kind of cool.

Id say the increase the number of shooters to 15 and 3 rounds each. Shorten the dunk contest.
Plus, instead of just taking basketballs, the moneyball rack should all be catch and shoot situations. Meaning contestant gets to pick a passer for one of the racks to simulate a catch and shoot situation

Dunks outside of the game mean nothing, same with 3pt shooting. How about not mailing in the month of January, for a start?
North vs South,,,instead of East vs West,,,,political/civil war bonanza ratings homerun,,,,
get 1 point for every defensive stop.

Fans should vote for the best player on each playoff team. Coaches should fill the rest of the lineup.
Not the all-star game, but i liked the old school 3 point contest when two players were going at the same time on a split screen in the first few rounds. It's added a level of intensity / excitement and allowed more contestants. They did on 4:3 screens, the wide screens today are perfect for it.

I say say just let the coaches decide all the all stars. and winner gets hca in the finals.
As far as improving all star weekend, they should get rid of the skills challenge and make a 1 on 1 tournament.
The MVP of the all star game gets to choose which team gets the #1 pick in the draft..
Nothing that could make the game better, but the teamcaptains draft their teams thing would be nice.
Maybe make it more gimmiky a la mtv rock and jock bball challenge (25point rims, 10 point buttons etc.).
How about American born all stars vs. Foreign all stars? Boban would be an all star! Lots of Spurs would be in the all star game!
