I know people are loving Simmons but honestly I'm not that impressed, yes he's more athletic and aggressive than Danny but his defense is a sizable step down. Our PGs are also a huge liability defensively against the Warriors. Which maybe we could live with if they were offsetting it offensively but both were no-shows. Pop either needs to not play them or stop helping them and just live with the results.

Not sure why Pop went small ball. I would have liked to see a big lineup like Manu/Danny/Kawhi/West/LMA or Simmons/Danny/Kawhi/West/LMA. Pop needs to also stop trying to force the LMA postup. He should have kept going to Kawhi until the Warriors adjusted, but maybe Pop is saving it after seeing how effective it was (at least I hope that's the case).

There are plenty of adjustments to be made. Also can't afford to give up that many turnovers.

Hey, even the 96 Bulls got blown out by the Knicks one game during the regular season. 1 game is just 1 game.
I also suspect Pop isn't completely unhappy about the loss/blow out, helps re focus and keep improving...

We were blowing out everybody only because of the weakness of the league.

If we could find a reliable 3pts shooter tho...

Can't burn the tape. Some guys need to grow a pair. This is the tape that will build character.

Remember how we started the championship season watching the tape of game 6 and 7... Pop is like that. After a while, he thought ok you guys going to play like this... this is the learning tape!!!!

The tiest thing about tonight, besides the "L" was that the Spurs didn't show up. This wasn't a good game, wasn't compe ive and the Spurs learned close to nothing. Failure can lead to success but the Spurs were so awful there was very little to take away from it.
There was plenty to learn from this game. I posted a few of them that stood out to me. Obviously the team still needs to play better otherwise it won't matter how many adjustments are made.

Simmons was pretty terrible after his nice 1st half stint, tbh..

He's a 10 MPG energy player..if you play him more than that, his flaws get exposed, which is what happened after the Warriors realized that dude is super-athletic and always looks to drive first..

Spurs attempted 14 3 point attempts. Warriors attempted 26 3 point attempts.

Spurs aren't going to win if they play conservative ball while the other team is rolling the dice!

Pop just said it was like "men playing boys" tonight. He said he'd have gotten fired if the GM was in the locker room.

Pop will have the team's full attention again.

I think he saved stuff. For example, Danny was hot early, he made mistakes and Pop went to Simmons. All the Simmons time is development. He showed fire, so if you can polish that a bit, he will be useful. He wasn't intimidated by the situation and this team needs that, and soon Manu will retire and we will miss that fire.

I am hopeful like you that Kawhi post up was just being saved... specially bc the game was out of hand and Pop didn't want to show all his cards. I mean Kawhi only 6 shots?? What was that? Even Anderson who is one of the most reluctant and passive guys we have shot 9 times in 16 minutes. Kawhi did draw fouls but still.

Yea I view Simmons similar to a change of pace type back in football. Green still needs to be the starter for his defense alone, especially against GSW.

That's what I gathered as well after seeing him stopped coaching in the second half. Nothing conjures up fire in the belly and motivation like taking one on the chin. I'm sure Pop will use the tape of this game for something like that in the future.

sasaint, I have not been in agreement with ceperez bc he saw the signs early, but I never ridiculed him.
Boban showed me more tonight than LMA. Simmons played with heart. Even Anderson. Mistakes yes, but what do we expect, at least theirs is justified. Simmons/Boban are rookies... Anderson might as well be bc he also hadn't played a game like this and he is out of the rotation at this point.

I thought Pop should have thrown the towel earlier, bc Manu was there taking hard fouls when the game was already over, but I thought Pop was gathering sufficient film before throwing out the garbage time crew.
I didn't say you may end up owing him an apology. I don't know what Pop was doing this game. It's virtually impossible to see what he had in mind when things spiraled out of control so fast. I didn't like LMA taking a 3 for our first shot of the game. My first question was whether Pop's plan was to try to match their tempo (surely not!), or whether the guys on the floor just got too carried away and totally neglected Pop's plan? Then later, rather than throwing in the towel, first try some Boban early. And going forward, Butler needs court time. He might have helped early on in this game. it looks to me like both Simmons AND Butler should get Danny's minutes. Simmons needed even more time tonight. A lot of people saw this game as more reason to hate on Kyle. I actually liked his play better than most of our guys. Most of our guys were boys playing against men, as Pop just said in his postgame interview.
