It's really convenient to pick up hookers on New Braunfels Ave after games.
So I'm headed to SA from March 12-19 to watch the Spurs play the Clippers, Thunder, Blazers and Warriors. Should be good. From all accounts, the worst part is going to be staying in San Antonio for 9 days. (well, actually, probably 7 as I'm gonna visit Austin in the gap between 2 of the games) But I'm sure it is a better town that what I have heard from others!
Anyway, any recommendations on things to do around San Antonio? I'm 29 and physically ableso I'm interested in any ideas... Best area to stay? Areas to stay away from?
I've been once, but was with my wife and it was only a short time last time - I'll have basically a lot of spare time to fill. Best sports bars, best bars, breweries, restaurants etc would be helpful, oh, and if anyone is interested and has been on SpursTalk for a while, is anyone interested in getting together for a beer at a game or after a game or at a strip club, whatever really
Cheers

U're gonna get fat tbh
Have a great time here. Are you staying downtown?
Stay away from the East side for the most part. If you want good places to drink, try Claudhoppers, Hoppy Monk, Haufbrau's, Blue Star District (all the places in and around it), and there's this one bar I found last Friday near Hoppy Monk that began with a W that was pretty poppin'.
For places to check out during the day, try Enchanted Rock, Los Maples State Park, Fredericksburg, and maybe Natural Bridge Cavers if that interests you. The first three can be done in one day.
if you're flying in.......once you exit the plane, book the next flight to socal.
I guess you could drive to New Orleans in between games.
Best area to stay away from would be San Antonio and surrounding areas tbh.
I'd get a hotel in Austin and drive down for the games tbh
None of these people live in SA.
You want to try the mexican food so go to Rosario's and La Fonda. If you are looking for BBQ go for a drive out to Lulling for the City Market and the place next door. but go early because they sell out by noon most days.
If you are looking for the nightlife there are two places to check out. First is downtown by the river. It's touristy and expensive but the ambience you are going to get out there will be much better than bar hopping the rest of the town. Second is go to Austin which is about an hour drive. PArk around first street and wander around downtown west of the highway. There is all kinds of from 1st to 7th because Austin zones all the debauchery into one place primarily.
The museums in south texas are disappointing. You can try the blue star galleries as has been mentioned but I personally think that place is a dump.
Rosario's sucks, Cascabel across the street is way better. City Market is great though. There are also three amazing BBQ places a few miles up the road in Lockhart: Smitty's, Black's, and Kreuz Market.
Make sure you pencil in a full day to tour the Alamo.
I would like to stay relatively close to downtown or surrounding - accommodation is quite expensive considering I'm a male travelling alone and don't really care the type of accommodation I stay in so long as it has a bed, shower and TV. Cheaper areas I've seen seem to be Southtown etc... I don't know why accommodation is so expensive, even ty ing Super 8 places are wanting $100 a night during this time - does anyone have an AirBnB to rent to me?![]()
This is the general gist of what I get when asking about SA. I've done New Orleans which was indeed a cool place, I love SoCal and was there in late 2014/early 2015 and I will put on a little bit of weight but I can afford to and still not look like most of the AT&T Center crowd![]()
Cheers mate. Austin looks really fun, I'm hoping to spend 2 nights there... it falls during SXSW festival (brief research indicates that looks pretty ing cool) so prices are steep, but what can ya do!
SXSW? Can you even get a room now? Add three hours to any travel times involving Austin those days.
Most of these ers probably haven't ever visited SA and like to hop on the narrative of "sa is a ty city" although the high economical growth and all of the people moving here tend to disagree with the gots.
Anyway I would recommend the Guenther House and Magnolia Pancake Haus for breakfast. Both are reasonably priced and very good. Riverwalk is pretty decent time, alot of good restaurants down there, some ones as well though that you may want to avoid. I would check yelp before eating anywhere.
As far as where to stay I would recommend either downtown or somewhere on the north side. North Central is probably best so you won't be to far from anything. Stay away from the Southside and East side, unfourtanetly the Spurs stadium is on the east side, but outside of that I wouldn't recommend going over there.
Think some others here mentioned Enchanted Rock if you are into doing some hiking. Generally a pretty good time. You can go Kayaking downtown on the river if thats something your into, can also rent bikes downtown to ride.
Lots of good wineries in and around San Antonio. Heres a good list of some bars and restaurants.

A couple Restaurants and bars not mentioned that are worth checking out are The Cove and Cowboys Dancehall. Not alot of choice as far as clubs go in San Antonio, but if you are into that The Kremlin and Lush are both pretty decent. Pearl Brewery area of downtown has some good bars and restaurants as well.
Hope this is helpful, feel free to inbox me when your here if you have any other questions.
San Antonio is a nice place to live because everything is cheap here, great highway system with reasonable traffic, we don't have cold winters, people are nice, we aren't taxed to , and so on, but I don't get it for tourists. Especially since tourists do get taxed to in Bexar County: you ers get to pay for the AT&T Center with really high hotel and rental car taxes.![]()
When you're in Austin you might want to try Franklin's. I have never been since I wouldn't wait two hours in line to the Virgin Mary, much less buy brisket, but everyone I know who has been says it's the best they ever had. He's probably the most famous guy on a pit in the US.
+1 make sure you visit the basement
rob you hit up Hoppy Monk frequently? I've been meaning to go but the wife is a pussy when it comes to trying new things. Worth it?
AirBNB basically..
Appreciate the advice mate![]()
