Wouldn't that make it hard for them to keep Curry in 2018 when his cheap contract is up? I guess by then they would be ready to blow up the team.

The big free agents, they’re forever living one of two things in the months leading into summer: searching for reasons to stay, or searching for reasons to leave. Durant has always been looking for reasons to stay. He adores the Oklahoma City community and holds a fondness for the franchise, but Durant is chasing championships, chasing a legacy.

This limits his choices, leaving the Los Angeles Lakers with little, if any, chance.

Should not be an issue at all to keep Curry. They have his Bird Rights and can exceed the cap to sign him. Not to mention most of their main guys would be locked into reasonable % of the cap deals because they signed before the big bump in the cap over the next few seasons.

Not happening unless they move pieces. Curry is going to get a max deal in 2018. Just something to get people fired up tbh.

Would hope so for their sake, be a shame to blow up a historic team.

I wouldn't be surprised if only because the guy is a certified beta who might be recognizing that his le window is closing fast..I think if Warriors get bounced in WCF by the Spurs that scenario becomes more legit and less unpalatable for Durant..he would be talking about his move as a reinforcement for the Dubs to get past their conference nemesis instead of a coattailing Curry and a GS dynasty in the making ..

all-Star Weekend is coming in Toronto, and Durant will get the chance to test out Steph Curry and Draymond Green as teammates. The recruiting has started
Coach pop ain't letting that happen.

Assuming an $89 million cap next year, this isn't as far-fetched as it might seem without a sign-and-trade (which OKC has no incentive to do unless they get a king's ransom). They would have to:

    - Trade Jason Thompson and Livingston's non-guaranteed contracts ($2.65mm and $3.0mm) - might be able to get value for Livingston; might have to give up 2nd rounder to move Thompson

    - Renounce Ezeli ($3mm cap hold) or Barnes ($5.2mm cap hold)

    - Move out Bogut - this is the biggest deal breaker. Limited teams have cap space to take on $12.7mm, even if it's expiring, ESPECIALLY if they know it's going to net the Warriors Durant. But all it takes is one. For this, they might have to package assets - which could include Barnes and Ezeli, though both are RFA so might be tricky, plus some first rounders.

    - Durant could get $25.4mm of a $26.7mm maximum deal (30% of cap), or the full max if they did more maneuvering. This takes into account minimum salary holds of $525k across the board to fill out the roster at 12.

    - Could keep Ezeli and Barnes too if Durant took $3 million less.

    - Dumping their first rounder could save them some cap space vs. the rookie minimum, or having them be under contract in Europe

Roster would be Curry, Thompson, Durant, Green, Igoudala and one of Barnes/Ezeli, plus six minimum salary guys / rookies / room exception.

Wouldn't that make it hard for them to keep Curry in 2018 when his cheap contract is up? I guess by then they would be ready to blow up the team.
No, they can pay their own players whatever they want assuming they're okay with the luxury tax implications plus constraints that come from being over the tax around MLE / trades.

One things for sure... they dont need Durant to beat the Spurs by on 30. The Spurs have become one of those middle of the road teams... just good enough to make noise but far from being contenders.
