As he's about to be a FA and on a smallish contract the Heat have the choice of trying to trade him now for ANYTHING or put up/band aid the situation and try to see if they can get him to be a beneficial player for the short term and keep them in the east's playoff picture. I'm sure they'll investigate the former, but the second is the most likely outcome.
Just for giggles, we can ask how he'd do as a Spur? Yes, this is completely hypothetical and not remotely realistic, but someone might wonder if team culture could change Whiteside. I say no. It didn't change Stephen Jackson or DeJuan Blair and Pop ships out people who don't fit fairly quickly. Couple that with two of the strongest locker room leaders, Manu and Timmy, likely to be gone soon and the new face of the franchise, Kawhi, being the silent type and you'd think that the pressure to "get in line" would be much less than it has in the past two decades or so. In short, it would be the wrong time for the Spurs to take a risk on any bad character guys.
