There is another piece of history the two share, one mostly hidden until now. According to multiple sources with direct knowledge of the event, the Lakers once contacted the Cavs to investigate whether Cleveland would make James available in a possible Bryant trade.

    Christ-a-mighty, we'd be light that back-to-back.

You'd be WAY ahead of the Celts by now. Probably would have won 8 straight and we'd be short 2.

Don't make me laugh. That dumbass only has a 2nd one because you have a 2nd 5th.

"I never would've approved it. Never. The trade to go to Cleveland? Never," Bryant told Holmes. "That wasn't one of the teams that was on my list. It was Chicago, San Antonio [or] Phoenix."

Could this got be any more of a frontrunner?

Well, the Phoenix angle was an accommodation out of Colangelo to ameliorate Kobe's rape. He didn't want him here and Kobe didn't want to be here, but, it gave Kobe some room to breath.

Chicago angle was real. And shamefully I was for it. All in' lit up, lookin' at all those names, gettin' a little buzz in my loins, oh, yeah, I was all in. And either my Luva, or, Kool was in as well.

    San Antonio? No.

Spurs dodged a bullet. If Lebron got to the lakers, they would've attracted loads of star free agents. No other team will have a chance for a decade.

Exactly. The would have at least 5 instead of just the 2.

And my Spurs would be at least 1 short, probably 2.

You start out in 1954 by saying, “nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a of a lot more abstract than “nigger, nigger.”

    Kobe certainly was.

That said, you should have shown up when the Spurs were up with seconds to go in game 6. You didn't.
