defensively against us in the 2005? they were so good, they had won the year before and took us to a game 7.

people say kobe didn't have a rival, i argue it was ginobili. but that's not the reason i made this thread. i made this thread because manu>kobe.

i compared their stats against pretty much the same team, one year apart. these are kobe's #s at age 25 vs manu's at age 27:
    in the 2004 finals kobe had a TS% of .456... in the 2005 finals manu's was .636
    kobe's eFG% was .398... manu's was .565
    kobe's TRB% 3.6... manu's 9.6
^here one could argue kobe didn't get that many rebounds because he had shaq on his team... BUT shaq's TRB% was 15 while duncan's was 20.4.
    kobe's ORtg 90... manu's was 117

    manu averaged 18.7 on 49% shooting to kobe's 22.6 on 38% shooting.

manu outplayed kobe against pretty much the same juggernaut over more games (7 to 5) while also averaging 10 (!) less minutes per game... and manu's usage % was 5 points less.

2005 also happens to be the year that Kobe missed the playoffs in his prime (), which makes it even easier to say 05 Manu > 05 Kobe...

Kobe also was a first-round exit in 06 and 07...these were in his prime years of 26-28 when most players hit their peak. This just proves that Kobe, even in his prime, was not the kind of player you could easily build a franchise around to win championships. He always needed a dominant center.

Peak Manu was one of the most unique and talented players we'll ever see. The 05 run was testament to that.

That said, can't put Kobe and Manu in the same zip code when talking about their full careers.

Wade absolutely wrecked the Pistons in the 2005 & 2006 ECF, the only thing that stopped him was the rib injury in 2005.

Kobrick has been terrible in the Finals against two defensive teams who had two way perimeter players: Pistons/Celtics

Tayshaun Prince has to be the most overrated perimeter defender of his generation b/c he got his reputation from blocking AARP status Reggie & Kirby chuckin' the Lakers out of the '04 Finals. He got his ass handed to him by Manu, Wade & LeBron......even Jefferson used to son him when he was on the Nets. He's the reason why Shawn Marion has NEVER made the All-NBA defense team in his career.

Prime Ginobili was a freakin sight to behold: amazing combination of skills, weirdness/flare, and compe ive fire the likes of which the NBA hadn't seen before all rolled into one.
