I wouldn't be surprised if the Thunder try to cut some salaries to get closer to the luxury tax, even if it requires them to part with some minor assets (ones that won't impact their ability to compete this year).
They're currently $12.5 million over the luxury tax per Spotrac. As a repeater, they pay 2.5x on the first $5 million, 2.75x on the next $5 million, and 3.5x on the amount between $10 and $12.5 million = $35 million in total.
Moving Waiters would save them $16 million in tax plus his prorated salary. Singler, Novak, Collison would each save $12 to $14 million.
Given how bad the economy is in OKC, wouldn't be surprised to see that team penny pinch. Funny that they nickel and dimed Harden, and now that Kanter deal is going to cost them like $50 million this year given it pushed them over the tax.
We'll see how many of the expensive seat season tickets get renewed next year. They're lucky the out in their lease is after next season and looks at 85% of a threshold that includes this season. Four years from now though if things don't improve economically and Durant and/or Westbrook leave, watch out.

Word is Augustin.
I don't get this trade for the Magic. Harris is nothing special and he's having a down season, but he's still a young, starting combo forward, signed going forward amid a skyrocketing cap. Ilyasova is an older, slightly worse power forward and Jennings, was a low end starting point guard pre Achilles tear, isn't one at the moment, may never be again and is probably Knicks/Nets bound (where he can be the uncontested starter) in the off season. Sure, they'll open up more cap space, but most of the league will have it and what significant player is going to the Magic?
Subs ute McCallum (to Heat, instead of Roberts) and Simmons, with a 2nd (to Grizzlies, instead of Hairston and their 2nd) and couldn't the Spurs have gotten Lee?
He probably wouldn't re-sign because he'd probably seek a bigger role elsewhere, but in the interim, he could soak up Ginobili's minutes and eventually become a quality fourth wing, who'd fit well with the rest of bench.
Not even close. You would need to sub Mills for Ray and Kyle for Jonathon to make the salaries work.
Yeah, Roberts makes more than I remembered and the gap between Hairston and Simmons is wider than I was thinking too.
I still think they need to be pursuing something along these lines, though I don't expect anything to come to fruition. I don't see how they could be comfortable with the fourth wing situation, especially given how difficult a match-up the Warriors are for Parker/Mills. It could be nice to have the option of playing Ginobili more at point guard, alongside with a shooting guard who can cross match.
That ended when the dealt Jennings.
If he doesn't pass the physical then there won't be any trade but he never had surgery to deal with his aliments. Next season he will be in a contract year so he chose to have season ending surgery. I say take advantage of him next season then DON'T re-sign him b/c he will end up like Nene/Sideshow Bob.
Go after Ibaka in 2017 since OKC has already invested in Adams/Anus Cancer.

Raptors and Clippers are both interested in Brooklyn's Thaddeus Young.
Young on the Clippers should worry the outta the Dubs tbh. Him and Griffin in a small ball lineup against theirs...
Clippers want Thaddeus Young? By all means my friend, i know a way to make it happen........

The Los Angeles Clippers are nearing agreement on a deal to acquire Orlando's Channing Frye, league sources tell @TheVertical.

Clippers would trade Lance Stephenson in a deal with Magic, but league sources say Clippers probing another deal elsewhere with Stephenson too.

Clippers could turn back to Orlando and complete Frye deal that would include Stephenson, CJ Wilcox and possibly a future 2nd rounder.

Sources: For tonight, Clippers holding back on finalizing Frye deal with Orlando. Clippers plans to give Orlando final word on Wednesday.
Frye is a decent get but the Clippers ain't shyt until they get a wingplayer ala OKC, Wes Johnson is the type of guy that will shrink in the postseason & Moute is unplayable.

Frye remains a significant target for several teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, sources tell @TheVertical.
Don't get Doc. Unloading Lance for Frye would be smart & can't see Lance netting anything better. Will be funny if another team swoops in for Frye now.
I imagine Doc fires up the Trade Machine and messes around with it to see what gets approved. What a ing joke.
Magic are just culling Harris. The team is better without him. They probably wanted a pick which is a loss. They will now look to trade Frye. Also look for CJ Watson to be on the block. If you want a big pg, he should be looked at. I am not sure how we could fit into his 5mil contract though.
