    My man keeping it real.....

President Barack Obama will not attend Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s funeral on Saturday, the White House said, adding that Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden will be at the services.

Obama and first lady Mic e Obama instead will go to the Supreme Court on Friday “to pay their respects to Justice Scalia” while the justice lies in repose in the Great Hall, press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters Wednesday.

Usually when you use "quotation marks" it means those were the exact words that came out of someone's mouth. Not that you're known for your honesty, just FYI.

That said, I wish I was invited to this fat 's funeral. I'd walk up slowly to "pay my respects". As I approached the casket I'd scream "Vaffanculo pezzo di merda!", whip out my and take a piss all over this er's dead face.

Scalia was a ty jurist, a bully, an "originalist" when it suited his biases. Thanks, Repugs.

In recent decades, Presidents have several times not attended a SCOTUS funeral.

oh, and your article failed to clarify that the funerals not attended by Clinton were of RETIRED justices. No President has ever skipped the funeral of a SITTING justice.

Nice try, though, Bookaki. typical RSS feed forum pollution.

If the President went to Justice Scalia's funeral, the right would rip him for politicizing the funeral, or would claim he's trying to steal the spotlight, or would make up some other basis for indignation.

When the President simply allows the funeral to be about the deceased (while paying his respects to the deceased in person in a more private way), the Right gets up in arms about his refusal to make a spectacle of the funeral.

The guy literally cannot win. I don't even particularly like this President, but to many it seems that the fact that this guy still bothers to breathe is simply too much.

i disagree with your premise that he would be criticized for attending the funeral but you are certainly en led to your opinion.

He is paying his respects, but keeping the Travelling Presidential Zoo away from what should be a private family affair.

Pretty classy, IMO. Presidential visits, with the attendant army of press/security/etc. are more than a bit disruptive/distracting.

    Biden... not so much.

Jezus, you bloody well know that Fox "news" and the hysterical right would spin anything he did as negatively as possible. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

You *know* better, so don't even try to play that off as "might". No one is buying it. We are all grown-ups here.

so you would criticize him if he went to the funeral because he would disrupt it?

The Right not taking an opportunity to criticize Obama -- with or without justification -- would be more surprising.

But (again) for many "conservatives" the only good thing Obama could do is die; and even then, I think he'd likely be criticized for not doing it sooner.

I wouldn't. But I also think taking account of the likelihood that his presence would disrupt the event -- and change the focus -- and electing to stay away because of that seems like a considerate and respectful choice.
