Isn't that a desired result? That he'll make wise decisions and manage the country well (through trade deals, tax policy, etc.) so that all of America will be prosperous?
About the only way I would vote for a Republican, is if I thought they would genuinely reform the tax code.

Despite all the other horribly bad and destructive policies of the Republican party, that would outweigh most other damage in my mind.

I don't think that article takes into account how much tax Trump would have had to pay (every year and so less to invest) if he had put it into a S&P 500 index fund. He doesn't pay any capital gains tax with real estate as long as he doesn't sell - the properties just appreciate.
Capital gains apply to stocks and bonds as well. Buy. Hold. Pay no tax.

The investment website is probably aware of the taxes.

You're misrepresenting that article. It takes the starting point of 500 million, not 50 million as you put it.

Ah, my comment was driven by a different article that estimated what he inherited from his father. 250M or so split between four children, if memory serves.

The article set the beginning time at what was known about his wealth to a good degree of certainty. Noted the disparity, but didn't bother getting into the details. I'll see if I can find the other article.

    (edit)--didn't have to look far.

Your own article pegs it at about $40M
The National Journal writer, S.V. Dáte, figured Trump started with $40 million in 1974. That’s the year he became president of his father’s real estate company. By one estimate, the firm was worth about $200 million and divided among Donald Trump and his four siblings, each would have received $40 million.
I was referencing his starting money, in 1974, the article noted a fixed point in time in the 1980s.

Don't be so sure. Trump is a liberal at heart. He's changing his stripes to pull his latest "Art of the Deal" tactic on the stupid GOP rubes at the moment. If by some miracle he became President I could see him clashing more with Republicans than Democrats.
    I would tend to agree.

Republicans have a much lower tolerance for ideological impurity.

But, to get to the point of the politifact article, they unsurprisingly rated the highly partisan claim by Occupy Democrats as false, mostly because it used some rather tenuous assumptions.

The overall hypothesis that Trump could have done better if he has simply done nothing is still one worth evaluating. Remember we are evaluating the claim "Trump is a great businessman".

the math [showing Trumps net worth compared to index funds is] at least is in the ballpark.
The above conclusion jibes with other analysis. THAT means that there is not really much to support the claim we are evaluating. If Trump was a great businessman, he should have easily outperformed an index fund.

This is why I reject the "elect Trump because of his business a en".

The federal government is not a business, and he is not that great even so.

Romney says Trump is hiding a ‘bombs ’ in his tax returns

“The reason that I think there’s a bombs in there is because every time he’s asked about his taxes he dodges and delays and says, ‘Well we’re working on it,'” Romney told Fox News.

“We’re now, you know, in late February and we still haven’t seen either Donald Trump’s or Marco Rubio’s or Ted Cruz’s taxes,” he added, referring to the two US senators challenging Trump for the nomination.

“Frankly the voters have a right to see those tax returns before they decide who our nominee ought to be.”

Romney, a businessman and former Massachusetts governor who himself faced relentless questioning about his financial dealings and taxes during the 2012 campaign, said he believed Trump simply might not be as wealthy as he has claimed.

“We could find he doesn’t have anywhere near as much income as we might think he would have with a $10 billion net worth, or he doesn’t pay any taxes or he pays very, very low taxes,” Romney said.

The insinuation is reminiscent of a 2012 attack on Romney, when top Senate Democrat Harry Reid repeatedly said that an unnamed investor in Romney’s company, Bain Capital, told him that Romney “didn’t pay taxes for 10 years.”

Reid’s comments set off a firestorm at the time.

Romney’s Wednesday remarks triggered a snappy reaction from Trump on Twitter.

“Mitt Romney, who totally blew an election that should have been won and whose tax returns made him look like a fool, is now playing tough guy,” Trump tweeted.

In January 2012 after the start of the primary race, Romney released his tax returns for 2010 and 2011, which showed he earned about $21 million for each of those years.

They also showed that in 2010 he paid a 13.9 percent tax rate, while those in the top one percent, which clearly includes Romney, paid an average of 23.4 percent.

Bishop Gekko and his Queen Ann blocked "you people" from seeing their bombs tax returns, because they had (got caught) evaded taxes very probably with the help of Swiss banks.

For some reason I thought Gekko was able to skate on revealing in total.

but if turning 40 million into billions is easy and unimpressive, then everybody who has tens of millions should become billionaires

he added up every nickel and dime, I bet sales taxes, property taxes, etc, etc. rather than just income taxes, and couldn't get up to 14%, and refused to publish tax returns older than 3 years, hiding his tax evasion from "you people"

Over 40 years, you can. That is partly why wealth is becoming increasingly concentrated. It is a simple mathematical certainty over a long period.

Granted you get total dumbasses who will be the exceptions to the rule, but generally that is the way it works.

    Some rules:
    https://www.opensecrets.org/pfds/disclosure.php

Looks like close, but not sure what is requirement vs what is common practice:
