He's a player that benefited the most from playing with the GOAT coach in Popovich and the GOAT organization which never allowed him to have sh*tty or lottery supporting casts around him at any point during his career.

Basically the Spurs is one of those rare cases where the organization and the coaching/system are bigger than the one player.

You're starting to see it now as Duncan is basically an aging roleplayer and yet the Spurs are on pace to have the best record on their entire franchise history (not even the Twin Tower Spurs of the late 90s, or the Big 3 Spurs of the 2000s can make that claim, with a prime Duncan)

But Duncan vampires can still cling to the fact that their hero is still playing so they can pretend like he is the main reason for the Spurs success.

When Duncan retires I suspect the Spurs won't miss a beat and will continue to be a 50+ win team and perennial contenders for years to come.

Yeah, because all the other top 10 players won with horrible coaches like Phil Jackson and pat Riley.

How many playoff series did Kirby after Phil abandoned him?
How many playoff series did Poop win after Tim sat out the 2000 playoffs?

Tim is done. He looks pretty ragged out there. I doubt he makes it past the WCF.

You're just the jovial type to ride on the Spurs bus. Bring your acoustic guitar and play well known melodies like "Habitat Habitat, Have to Have a Habitat" and "Ecosystem.. Where Have You Gone?"

Not this time. Tim can provide some rebounds and defense but he cannot even make a layup, doesn't even try the jumper from the top of the key. He sees his peers retiring and sees that pool behind his home in the morning, sun beating down on it, and he looks at his watch and thinks "wish I could stay".

Oddly Amy went through the same thing.

    Damn, DMC gettin' reflective.

Yep, we want them to go on forever, never to give up the fight, because we remember the prime and that sight is enough to sustain us on the nights when there is no prime left. None.

That is what Jabbar said a year in retirement. "There was no prime left." And they then asked him if he'd be agreeable to play, but, only off the bench, against the second string. He didn't take exception, just declined the suggestion. And I was settin' there gung ho for the idea. But, it can't be like that. It just can't.

I'd like to say that I don't want this or that for Tim Duncan, but truth of the matter is that Tim can make more sitting on a bench than Kareem made in his prime, exponentially more, so I'd understand if Tim finds it hard to walk away from that money just for wearing the uniform. With that said, I'd like to see the Spurs move on; pay the man who put them on the map his dues, but then move on.

But you gotta admit, when that call comes to start training camp, it would be nice to hear "stop by if you're in the area" instead of "pick Tony up on your way".

The team is doing everything in their power now to remain relevant. It's ironic since in the past so many years prior to Kawhi and Diaw, the team pretty much didn't do anything to get over the hump. Those years were basically wasted just hitting the 50 mark.

It ain't the money for Duncan. He's winding down, like a clock. He'll have his chance next month. When the others can't find their game after the 82 he'll have the exact coordinates. The stage is set for such a stand. He won't go quietly. He'll rage, albeit with dignity, but, he'll turn in the corner.

I know it's not the money. Still, you have to wonder if his pride will allow him to come off the bench. I don't think the Spurs would ask, he's a brand they want to preserve as a starter. If he has enough bad games in a row, he'll probably not even announce, just make the call in the off season, like Peyton did.

When he's done I'll probably catch the scores now and then but the new crew doesn't interest me a lot. Too much outside shooting for my tastes, no banging in the paint.

No, he'd never come off the bench. It would never even cross their collective minds.

Yep, the days of banging in the paint are over in the NBA. They don't want it.

It's like this forum a bit. It used to be main user names going at it in the paint, now everyone grabs a safety shield alt and launching bombs from long range to avoid any association with them. It dilutes the product.

This place was wild when I got here. I never saw anything like it. Game nights were insane. I wonder why it changed so much.

They closed registration for a long time because "her" and "him" weren't present much. That meant attrition from people growing the up (I'm too old for that, no hope for me now) wasn't backfilled. Then they opened suddenly and all the ty grey named Tony/Manu nationalists multi-registered different alts and used them pretty much the same way the used their original user names, to give ty takes.

Used to be guys actually tried to contribute to this place by bringing "goods" in the form of videos and podcasts and , but the creation of the "EC" was the last straw I think, it's when the site became just a caricature of its former self. People stopped posting shortly thereafter, and the decent takes from people from each fanbase waned due to all the gotry with alts and such. Plus, you come here 2 years later and the same few topics are being discussed: Duncan and Kobe. Rarely is there any basketball talk. There used to be some basketball talk. You can have all the other ass grabbings but you need to have some basketball talk too. Now it's mostly "look at me" . It's disgusting. I can't blame people for thinking it's something to live down instead of something to live up to now.

Your buddy Cedric didn't help any. We started around the same time, and there were some discussions back then (along with the talking of course) but Cedric there would post 3 or 4 threads a day about his , pussy, rap videos.. all the no one wants to read. He had a line of posts with zero responses a mile long. So in essence the goal was reached, the forum became a barren wasteland. Good job if that was his intent.

However the forum was about trolling then, only some people didn't know how to separate it from basketball. It's now 80/20 with trolling winning. Used to be the other way around.

Phil did it in two different places, two different teams, repeated with both, tripled with both.

    Pop is inert.
