Speaking as a Floridian, Rick Scott has been good for our state. He has recently been trying to woo Yale from Connecticut - never gonna happen but at least he's trying. His doughnut ad encouraging businesses to come to Florida is kinda corny though.

This is one of those things that, in Gov. Rick Scott's Florida, makes you tilt your head like a confused puppy. Let's say you're a Florida doctor, a heart specialist who spends one day a week in a state-run clinic treating poor children with heart conditions under the state's Children's Medical Services program. You're doing this because you're, well, a decent human being.
And then you get a letter from the state saying they're going to start billing you for the privilege of treating those kids.

The DOH's Jennifer Tschetter sent him a contract asking him to pay $1,397 in rent annually if he were going to continue see children out of the state-owned CMS clinic in Tallahassee. It’s the same place St. Petery has been treating medically complex children with heart disease for last 40 years.
Did we mention that St. Petery is a fiery (public) critic of the Rick Scott administration's healthcare moves, and that as of yet he appears to be the only individual doctor in the state asked so far to pay this "rent" for the privilege of seeing impoverished kids at a state-run clinic?

That's just what's recent - at least he's trying to bring businesses here. Look, I like my state - 6% sales tax, no income tax, pensions in good shape, assessed property value capped at 3% increase per year and a full ride at universities like UF, UM, FSU, UCF for National Merit finalists. I am happy with the way the state is run - now, Miami-Dade county - that's whole other ball game.
Right I think everyone here knows all you care about is your bottom line. And some of those "positives" are not thanks to Rick Scott.

Starbucks is quiet study time, neither Rick, or the sqauk box, followed protocol. Rick needs to stay in upper class places which strangely might be.... overpriced coffee houses for mill about housewives.

Its a very diverse State. Just don't ask for federal help when a hurricane levels your butt yet again. If you live there and can afford it, pay for your own get dem flattened house. You guys all need to pay astronomically high insurance rates, NO federal help for you.
I lived through Hurricane Andrew which totaled my rental house. Rebuilding was a nightmare - all the housing codes went sky high. I'll give you an example: I either had to knock out/widen/lower all the bedroom windows (so that people of all sizes could step out) or put on fire-proof bedroom rooms at the tune of $1k each. Wish I had sold the house as-is instead of the hassle of rebuilding. The traffic was terrible for 2 years as contractors from up north came down to rebuild the devastation. The remaining, intact houses went through the roof in price as there were so few of them. And yes, we have paid big time for home owner's insurance since then - no federal help.
My brother owned a Chinese restaurant, and when we cleared our street enough to get to it, we cooked everything in the freezer (electricity out, but thankfully, gas stoves) and handed out to our neighbors. Never seen a more grateful bunch of people for HOT meals. We went from house to house of our church members helping to clean up - ripping up carpets, moving appliances and wet furniture to the curb - what a mess.

I guess some posters want the govt to help and some (like pgardn) don't. I rather buy private insurance and depend on myself.
Did I say it didn't? Just that none of that money came to me. On one hand, I'm being mocked that Scott (who wasn't even governor then) didn't do anything and on the other, that I better not expect the federal government to help me - which I don't and it didn't. I rebuilt on private insurance that I paid for and my own efforts.
What do you think that federal money was spent on? What if there was no federal money spent? How would that have affected you personally?
Whether federal or county money, I contributed to - via taxes. I was not personally affected as I didn't live in the hardest hit areas - outside of not having electricity, ac, eating fresh, cooked food, increased traffic and having to rebuild my rental (which as mentioned earlier, I should have just sold as is).
