EDIT: sounds like it's close to a sure thing nowTom Thibodeau is in "serious discussions" with the Minnesota Timberwolves to become their next president of basketball operations and coach, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. San Antonio Spurs assistant general manager Scott Layden would reportedly take over as general manager under Thibodeau.
Thibodeau and Layden worked together with the New York Knicks in the late 90s and early 2000s, when the former was an assistant coach and the latter ran the front office. This, obviously, would be a bit of a role reversal. It would also signal the departure of current Minnesota general manager Milt Newton.
While Thibodeau has no front-office experience, it is unsurprising that he would be interested in this dual role. He famously clashed with the front office while coaching the Chicago Bulls, and this would take that potential problem out of the equation.

Edited the OP, looks pretty likely that Layden will be joining Thibodeau in Minnesota.
Thibs is going to make 10m/year WOW
Thanks for sharing.
Yup and they already have a lot of talented young guys and pieces they can trade for veterans + cap room. They will be good, replacing former powerhouses that are bound to decline like Mavs, Rockets, Grizzlies. I wish them the best. I like KAT and dislike washed up compe ion. It's better for the league to have compe ive teams. We just got to take care of our own business.... but damn San Antonio getting poached.in the off-season we might see one of the assistant coaches depart too, who knows?
Hold up. You guys are sad we lost an assistant GM who was the reason the NBA created the Allan Houston rule?
I want Hinkie as Assistant GM tbh.
Was thinking same thing. I think Danny was interviewing at some places but I'm sure he would come back too. Might this finally be time for Bonner to transition to front office?
Agreed Layden did a lot of terrible moves as the Knicks GM. He was hated in NYC that he got death threats along with supposedly getting mugged by some fans. If anything Layden shows how powerful the Spurs brand is that anybody who works for the Spurs regardless of talent is guaranteed to get a good job offer from opposing teams.
Manu can take over as Asst GM, tbh
Time for Bonner to retire as FO spots are going to be opening up this offseason.
Bonner still thinks he can play for a couple of more years, you really want an idiot like that running the team?
Only reason many proposed him being in the front office was to keep Butler. Now he's gone. Bonner can off
