Kawhi had to either guard the most athletic point guard to EVER play the game or was assigned to put out the fire Danny started every time he was on the floor. They happen to be the most devastating two man duo on the offensive end since Kirby/Shaq:
The burden was put on Kawhi/Danny to contain them 1-on-1 while Porker does absolutely nothing on defense. On top of it, Kawhi was expected to be the 1st or 2nd option on offense every single game.
-WestBrick: 25/6/10/2 (27 TOs / FG: 37% / TS: 47%)
-Kawhi: 23/7/3/2 (12 TOs / FG: 48% / TS: 55%)
-WB averaged 22 drive per 100 possession in the regular season & 1st rd but against Kawhi he averaged 3 drives per 100 possession: (http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=15472072)
-WB also didn't score a single basket against Kawhi in Gm 2 when OKC stole HCA but let's blame Kawhi's 7/18 night:![]()
Let's see how the original Kawhi (Kirby
) fared while being asked to be a primary or secondary scoring option while guarding elite scorer for 48 minutes:
2001 Finals:
-Kirby (2nd option & DIDN'T have to guard AI 48 minutes): 24/7/5/1 (18 TOs / FG: 41% / TS: 50%)
-AI aka Original WestBrick (didn't have KD / played 1 on 5): 35/5/3/2 (12 TOs / FG: 40% / TS: 48%)
2004 Finals:
-Kirby (Wanna be 1st option): 22/2/4/1 (18 TOs / FG: 38% / TS: 45%)
-Rip: 21/5/4 (23 TOs / FG: 40% / TS: 50%)
2008 Finals: (**Closest scenario to the OKC series since Kirby couldn't hide on Ray Allen**)
-MVP Kirby (Pau=LMA): 25/4/5/2 (23 TOs / FG: 40% / TS: 50%)
-Pierce: 21/4/6/1 (22 TOs / FG: 43% / TS: 58%)
Now, let's put to bed all the Kawhi is "overrated" narratives.![]()

Kawhi was not the problem dummies.
The same dude that keeps bringing up Ibaka's*FAKE*injury from 2014 as if he didn't play in Gm 5/6 & get raw dogged by old ass Tim in OT.
lol 12 year old with a terrible take
but but but when he was the 4th option on the finals team, and the corpse of ray allen, Rashard Lewis, or Mario Chalmers defended him he was FMVP
I think Kawhi ed throlden's wife and made him watch, tbh tbh
OP with truth nukes
I think he lost a bet on Kawhi![]()
Dont worry, OKC won't have a team in two years. Dude will have to cover minor league baseball or move to Tulsa and cover the WNBA.
And on the main subject, great post. Kawhi wasn't the problem. In fact, he helped team almost overcome its mediocrity.
Kawhi was crap in this series. OP and the rest of these fans are trying spin whatever they can to feel better about him not being a real superstar.
I don't hate Kawhi Leonard, and he plays hard as , but he still has a lot of work ahead of him... Decision making, knowing when to go to that extra gear, when to slow down...
He's been improving every season though, so hopefully he doesn't hit a ceiling yet.
Most of these guys reach their ceiling when they are 24-25 and there is only slight improvements afterwards which tends to be the little things along with increased basketball IQ.
True. Unfortunately, Kawhi learned how to dribble at 22, I don't think we can expect him to improve that much in that aspect of his game.
Ppl who think players not yet 25 have hit some ceiling are hating. That's just the truth, barring injuries players of Kawhi's age who work hard and have talent can continue to improve specially on what they already do well and Kawhi can score.
He can be more skilled and savvy + he needs help. If neither him or LMA are talented elite passers Pop needs to get them one. Skilled passing is the one skill I have heard Pop say he's not sure can even be coached. I don't think it can either. You can teach a guy an offense where guys are supposed to be etc., but it comes so much easier to guys who have that gift. So he's not going to be LeBron, but he can learn to read a PnR and execute one better.
The concern to me is that without TD next season we are in trouble in general bc the reason LMA and Kawhi don't have a devastating two man game like TD and Manu or Tony used to have was that TD could pass very well finding them cutting and LMA isn't on that level + both Manu and Tony were special running the PNR with TD + aggressive with speed getting to the basket. Kawhi hasn't displayed the same game and neither has LMA. We should have gone to both of them a whole lot more even if we didn't end up with a 67 win record. There's a reason they say new teams like this don't win in their first season. Chemistry takes time and Kawhi himself was still evolving and growing + LMA too new.
Note my comment is not restricted to Kawhi, and includes LMA bc it's a team sport.
Danny is not an elite passer or dribbler either. I think Pop will keep pushing everyone to pass better bc he's pushed even Danny but the SL needs help in that department. I agree that Kawhi thrives in a motion offense. We shall see for next season. Whoever we add just have some kind of passing skill if he's destined for the SL.
KL wasn't the problem in this series AT ALL.
No bench production, bad coaching, and Tim's knees. Sprinkle in a little Thunderref and that spells trouble.
Seeing Pop throw out Martin and Miller into a blowout elimination game on the road -- infuriating.
How about keeping one of Green/Kawhi on the floor AT ALL TIMES?
LOL didnt leonard try to defend ROBERON LAST NIGHT?.... thats right
This. Westbrook and Durant weren't OKC's best defender, Adams/Ibaka/Roberson are. Curry isn't the Warriors best defender Green is. This series was like watching Lebron in Cleveland the first time around and why he looked for help with Wade/Bosh. People on here acting like Kawhi being the best offensive and defensive player for tge Spurs is a good strategy. It's not. He got no help with some decent stretches from Green and games 1/2 from LMA. Everyone else ate by the bucket full.
That's usually the guy they ignore or "hide" TP on. That scrub played well in game 6.
Your shtick is just lame and pathetic tbh. It isn't amusing or witty. You're just annoying. No one takes you seriously and you're just embarrassing yourself at this point.
Here's some more truth nukes for Tony Tissot's slurpers:
