I see everyone is quickly talking about buying the best FA available, almost as if they have forgotten about Pop's ways. Assuming Duncan retires, why not move Boban up? They did so with Splitter, Green, etc. albeit there were growing pains.

We aren't going to be able to re-sign him if we don't have the role for him, especially considering some lower level team will almost undoubtedly overpay him. That way we can keep lazy Diaw with his contract, and add DEPTH, which is necessary for a team run by Pop.

I think you have misconceptions on how the guys you mentioned earned their spots. None of them waited their turns. They earned their spots by being the best players for the job. Green took the job from Anderson and Neal. Splitter took it from Diaw and Blair. Patty took it from Joseph and Neal. Boban may not even be on the team next season. If he is, he certainly has a chance to win the job. But he will have to beat someone for it, if only because the team will need to bring in at least one other legit big to bolster that unit.

Love the sound of that! It's really the next thing we need to build on- "legit big(s)."

Yes but he isn't a good rebounder or shot blocker for his size.

If Duncan retires he can be the starting big. We would also need another big for I insurance. Imagine when Chinook wanted David West to be a starter next to lma next season.

We missed a lot of shots in the playoffs, but getting worked on the boards didn't help a bit.

Maybe, Spurs still need a small-ball lineup to close out games. A PG worth a -Green-Leonard-athletic forward that can shoot-Aldridge.

2 traditional bigmen, slow paced teams just don't cut it anymore.

I'm okay with Boban starting if our objective is to be in the lottery next year.. Actually, that's not a bad idea.. tank.. clear roster space, get a great draft pick and have cap space to get some real pieces around Leonard.

Boban takes over every time he is on the floor even it is scrub minutes. No one knows what he is capable of in a starting roll. There was a game during the season where even Durant was in awe of his skills.

Too slow, turnover prone, not very good D, nice offensive but is not starting material/championship team piece.

1-5 pick and roll and we'd be ed. Imagine him switching onto the PG's in today's league.

Boban gets killed in pnr situations. I don't know why people think he is going to be a difference maker for the Spurs as a starter.

Then have him guard Chris Paul from the outset so they won't run a P&R to get a switch.

I think in a "Blair role" he could be useful something like 20-25 mpg depending on the night and opponent. Maybe Pop will experiment more with LMA at the five in some of those remaining minutes.
