I think you are missing the bigger point, he didnt deserve to die as a human, but when he put himself in that situation, breaking down 2 doors and not responding to the killers inquiries. He did deserve to die at that point, that is what he gets. He commited a crime, its really simple, whether it was his estranged GF's house or not, the shooter was justified.
