    Most people I know would rather see their team winning a WC than a libertadores or champions league tbh... This is the case at least in Europe except Spain and in Brazil imo fwiw

    Your guess is wrong . People who consider Messi > Maradona may do it due to a generational issue (they haven't seen Diegoat play) regardless of the club. Just like you have 70/80-year-olds calling Di Stefano the greatest Argie ever.

    Personally I defend Messi because of his GOAT skills, his low-key demeanor, the fact that the chose to play for Argentina even though he doesn't owe the country (or their people) anything and his woman among other reasons.
