    Here's info on the NLI...http://www.nationalletter.org/index.html

In Lampkin's case, he was looking for an early release from his NLI w/ Texas instead of having to wait until the fall when his NLI
would have been considered null and void because he would not have qualified for admission based on UT's foreign language requirement.

Oh well.......and the world continues to turn.

BTW, I wish there were 128 D-1 schools.....Divided up in one of two ways, both of which are organized based on region......Sixteen 8-team conferences or eight 16-team conferences.

16 conferences......7 conference games and 4 non-conference games....top two teams play for Conference le. Winner goes to 16 team playoff. Lottery determines matchups each round

8 conferences.......7 division games, 4 non-division games, 1 non-conference game.....winner of each division plays for conference le.....winner advances to 8 team playoff. Lottery determines matchup each game.

Big 12 expansion is a business decision and Memphis, Houston, and UCF probably don't add as much as they would dilute the per school payouts.

Starr was going to be the scapegoat, now may look like the only one taking this head on. May only be for apoearances, but from a PR standpoint, he's making all the right moves.

** Just saw clips of the interview.... I was completely wrong. He doesn't get it either. Smh... What a dumpster fire. Baylor looks worse by the minute.

Apparently ABC/ESPN had first pick of ND-Texas game. Fox had next two selections, chose Ohio State-OU 9/17 and Texas-OU 10/8.

From our conversation yesterday, Burton of 24/7 gives his take on getting a release from an LOI.

    Step 1
A recruits sends a request to the NCAA asking out of his LOI.

    Step 2
The NCAA notifies the ins ution in question and the ins ution is given 30 days to rule on this request.

    Step 3
Release is given by school or denied by school.

    Step 4
If denied, then the NCAA asks school why release was not granted.

    Step 5
NCAA then decides whether or not to grant release regardless of what university had decided. The NCAA, not Baylor, has the final say.

In all, you're looking at a 30-45 day process unless Baylor changes its current course.

Baylor officials have told recruits that they are unwilling to grant recruits a release. At least one such meeting occurred between a Baylor official and the parent of a recruit yesterday.

Baylor is setting itself up for the worst possible kind of PR move.

Baylor would be better off giving a full release to any and all players -- both recruits and current players on their own team -- than try to restrict any student-athlete from moving elsewhere. That would help the Bears during the penalty phase of the NCAA because that is coming in a big, big way. To think otherwise is a fools errand.

If Baylor gave full releases, Baylor would likely keep most of its current players, at least the ones that really matter, and keep some of their recruits. By doing so, they would also look like they are being helpful to kids instead of forcing rules on kids that didn't sign up for this coach or a program and university that is in disarray.

Instead, Baylor is going to try to play hardball with recruits and its student-athletes and they're likely going to get spanked by the NCAA's paddle even harder.

I don't know who is advising Baylor on its tactics with recruits and its football program, but they are setting Baylor up for an even harder fall. Really not smart people.

Bobby went on to mention this:

There is no way the NCAA will uphold the LOI to a school that is in utter disarray. It's not just the football program, it's the whole school.
If this were about athletics, the NCAA could be somewhat swayed. But this isn't just about athletics. The football coach, the AD and the President have now all moved on in the matter of a week.
If I were Baylor, I'd give a free release to every single athlete that wanted to go elsewhere in ANY sport, not just limited to football. The NCAA might then see that Baylor is actually committed to treating its student-athletes the way it would want to be treated.
Again, I don't think the Baylor football program or any of the money-making programs would be decimated by such a decision and it would be perceived as very forgiving on the part of Baylor brass. Instead, they're attempting to extort these recruits and student-athletes instead of just being up front and forthright.
The meeting with the parent yesterday did NOT go well for Baylor. AT ALL.

The idea that the NCAA will have no say on possibly the biggest scandal ever, outside of Penn State, seems silly to me.

And Baylor is delusional if they think they're going to hold their signees hostage.

My guess is they're going to wait as long as possible until their hand is forced like the rest of this story.

Odd... Doesn't make sense to release one and not the other. Baylor is writting the book on how not to react to a scandal. They need to try the George Constanza and go against their instincts in every decision and maybe they might get something right.

One would think Devin is next, otherwise Baylor needs a new team of advisors.
