It's true. Magic won't be able to hide how defensively poor he is with the two great guards of GSW

So far in the 2016 NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors have absolutely been torching the Cleveland Cavaliers. And while this is surprising to a certain extend given that the NBA has the best representatives from each conference going up against each other, the Warriors are historically good. They did win 73 games in the regular season and just completed a comeback in the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
That combination of performance both in the long-term and short-term is begging even more comparisons to other historically great teams, aside from the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls. On Sunday after the Game 2 victory, a triumphant Draymond Green — who shot so many threes Steph almost lost his mind — was asked if these Warriors could beat the Showtime Lakers.
Although they play a different style, they're very similar in how cohesive they work as a unit. The absurd passes came so naturally during fasbtreaks for the Lakers of yore much like the Splash Brothers Warriors around the arc.
But out of respect for the Lakers, Draymond humbly declined the notion that the team could hold their own against Magic Johnson, Kareem-Abdul Jabbar and James Worthy. The Warriors play with an unabashed confidence that saying yes would make almost them look bad, as though they're doubling down on how good they really are. Green instead opted to explain that because the two teams are in separate era, they can't obviously face each other.
Klay Thompson didn't bother to hide under the veil of respect for the basketball forefathers, however. He interjected during Green's time on the mic to say, "We're better than the Showtime Lakers" albeit facetiously. Thompson does have a connection to the Showtime Lakers. His father Mychal was part of that squad from 1987 to 1991, making this seem more like a jab to his dad than a sure declaration of the Warriors' superiority.
The media got a laugh out of it, and we can only wonder what would happen if the two teams somehow managed to face off in a basketball court unhinged from the concept of linear time.

Even though I think 85 was the best of the showtime teams, I think the 82 Lakers would be the best bet for matching up. You could throw Nixon and Cooper on the splash brothers and hide Magic on Barnes/Iguodala, and you'd still have a Kareem who was a capable defender at the rim. Then Wilkes and McAdoo off the bench could be pretty devastating.
PG - Scott
SG - Coop
SF - Magic
PF - Worthy
C - Kareem
???
The Lakers are going to get murdered from the three point line, that's for sure, although nobody's touching Cap's sky hook. Draymond can't play center because Kareem is going to torch him. Overall if they played I think GS wins in 6 because of better defense and shooting.
Nah man, defensively it would be
PG - Nixon
SG - Cooper
SF - AIDS
PF - McAdoo
C - Alcindor
I guess I'd start McAdoo over Rambis and let Wilkes run wild with the bench. I think the Worthy/Scott era Lakers would get wrecked by these Warriors because of matchups in the backcourt.
u can always hide aids on kent, or have him straight up be in front of curry on every possession
do lengthy players force curry to adjust his shot?
This Warriors team would trash the Lakers under any rules or era, it's not even a debate...
Better question is can they beat the Shaq-Kobe Lakers
McAdoo couldn't guard anyone on the perimeter so they would have PnR'ed up him to death.(He was also washed up like D-Worst to punish GayMond)
If it comes down to Worthy at the 4 vs. Nixon at PG then I'm taking Worthy considering Byron held his own against Isiah/Dumars & Worthy killed the Pistons while going up against Rodman.
Yeah I can see Curry or Klay defending Magic on post ups
Or Bogut trying to guard Kareem
not really
"Better" as in gayer?
Receiver of more rigged calls?
He's almost right.
I think they need another year like this to solidify that claim.
So put Wilkes at the four then and bring McAdoo off the bench. Wilkes vs Worthy is a wash when you get a Kareem who could still guard the rim in 1982 and Nixon who has more of a hope of staying in front of Curry than Scott ever could.
If we are talking about Kareem regressing then might as well pick the '80 Lakers when he was the MVP of the league.(Not quite "showtime" but nor were the '82 Lakers)
How in the could either of GSW guards even match up with Magic. He is 6'-9". LOL
Yup trolling his dad.
Showtime Lakers would obliterate GS, or any other team playing now.
The best debate topic is MJ's Bulls versus the GS Warriors. who will win???
Just drivel to entice discussion on sports forums like this. It would be pretty exciting to see though. Like 150-155 type games. Products of the offensive ahead NBA.
It would be fun watching Draymond trying to defend Worthy.
Mychal Thompson says otherwise: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...cast/85536076/
