Soccer is the number one sport in the wolrd by a gazzilion margin for a reason. It is the most fun sport to play as Harlem posted. Basketball is my favourite sport but i wont deny the fact that playing soccer is more enjoyable.

Heck of a sport. Complex yet so simple.

You don't think the British having the whole world at the end of the sword had something to do with soccer's growth over the last 160 years?

Look at the most popular sports in which the United States had something of a political/cultural/economic influence.

    - Your Philippines: (team sport) Basketball by far.

    - Japan: Baseball

    - South Korea: Baseball (arguably)

    - Taiwan: Baseball

    - Cuba (yes, I know relations are cold now, but for the first half of the 20th century, they were an ally, and fought alongside of us in the Spanish American War since they were under Spanish control at the time): Baseball

    - Puerto Rico: Baseball or Basketball

    - Panama: Baseball

    - China. Although we never had an "influence" on them, they seem to be crazy for US culture, and with the rise of Yao Ming, basketball really took off there. It's estimated over 400 million Chinese play recreationally.

You see that our population grew by over 50% but we didn't automatically win 50% more Nobel prizes.
    That's b/c the population has become 50% dumber & 50% fatter.

The GOAT besibol player was born in the 19th century b/c WHITE Americans PEAKED in the early 1900s.

    Soccer
    "Most fun sport to play"

Real talk: povertyball is the "sport" that little kids are forced to endure until their parents finally let them try out for Pop Warner. Nobody outside of third-worlders who can't afford to play real sports and sissy Eurotrash nu-males actually enjoys playing povertyball.

There are 6'5'+ stiffs in tennis who dominate b/c of they have a "big serve". Besides, you don't necessarily have to move much in tennis if you have the skills to hit a winner rather than trying to force your opponent to commit an error. That's the difference b/w Federer & Nadal.

Hakeem Olajuwon couldn't make it in soccer despite being a FREAK athlete.

    I said ball sports, bro.

And in the lighter weight classes in combat sports, you'll often see 5'5" midgets fighting each other (Johnson's last opponent was 5'4"), so I don't see how posting that pic helps your argument.

Can't find an example of a midget being GOAT at any other ball sport so he posts fighters.

And obviously Hakeem wouldn't make it in soccer. Just as much a very short stature can limit you so can a very tall one. Hakeem probably would not have made it any other ball sport aside from basketball. And maybe, BIG maybe, under ideal conditions, football.

If povertyball is so amazing, why aren't the world's superpowers dominating at it? The U.S., Russia and China have a combined zero World Cups. If third-world kickball was as important as advertised, you'd think at least one of those countries would give enough of a to win at it.

Ruth is not the GOAT, though (in a vacuum). Put Ruth against Clayton Kershaw, and he's hitting .100. Ruth is the GOAT as much as George Mikan is. I respect Ruth and he was a freak of nature, but if he time traveled from 1925 to the modern MLB, he doesn't make the cut.

As for the Nobel thing, if we got "so fat, dumb, and lazy," then why has the rate of Nobel winners from "educated" and "brilliant" Germany and the UK DECLINED over the last half-century despite their population growing? The latest "German" Nobel Winners are from Romania

Only two in all of history, and to my knowledge, no Grand Slam champions.

Like I said, there's players who beat the odds (Sproles, Bogues, etc), but there's a very low likelihood of a 6'10" person making it in pro soccer or baseball, a 5'6" person making in the NFL or NBA, etc.

Basketball, badminton () and table tennis () are more popular than third-world kickball in China:

In a survey last year, the majority of Russians voted for hockey as their favorite sport over poorball:

It might be, but I put basketball neck and neck with soccer.

China is weird, though, and the more popular sports over there is the one in which a Chinese citizen/team is currently doing well at (ex. Women's pool will draw 150 million viewers over there. Naturally, the Chinese dominate Women's pool).

Baseball players are a lot fatter on average, though. Obese even.

    Average height/weight in the MLB:

    6'1.4", 196lbs. BMI, 25.6

    In the EPL:

    5'9.7", 167lb. BMI, 24.2

Povertyball players only have a 1.4 less BMI, despite it being a "stamina" game and despite the fact that baseball players will have on average more muscle mass.

I was obviouslt talking about Team sports. No, basketball is not neck on neck with soccer. That'far from the truth. Soccer is still heavuly the number one sport in China and thats sayin something since the chinese basketball team is a top 15 team in basketball and they're probably not even a top 7 soccer team in Asia.

Its an easy sport to pick up and really appeals to the poor who.just wslants to play ball without needing certain tools.

Soccer is the number sport in Russia. I dont know why Americans and Canadians try sk hard to prove otherwise

It's Russia number one soort for the middle class and the poor..and rich people.like it too.

Both of them just at it too...

It's basically the number one sport and even if you combine all the sports below it, it wouldnt top soccer...

Its a simple and fun game to play. You're neverngoing to beat that.

Japan is a great example of this baseball vs soccer .

Japan didnt have a pro league till 93 and its now a more popular youth sport in japan...its slowly creeping and thats crazy rise in popularity considering they didnt start their league till maybe 22 years ago

you think they don't care about football?

USA = hosted 1994 WC, bid for 2022 and will probably bid for 2026 (why do that if you don't give a ). Also why are MLS teams hiring TOSB former superstars if not for growing the sport in the country?
Russia = hosting 2018 WC, European powerhouse during USSR time with teams paying millions to lure players into their league
China = teams paying loads of money for big players, European leagues even started to change some of their playing times so Chinese people can see the games.

What data do we use though for China? Participation numbers? Social media presence? Television ratings? When you sum all that up, I just don't see basketball trailing soccer by any significant margin.

As for Japan, while soccer has grown in popularity, baseball has stayed around its 50% preference level as the country's most popular sport, so it's not like soccer is taking away interest from baseball.

I would host the World Cup on my front lawn despite hating the sport. The World Cup brings in massive revenue. That's why the US is "interested" in the sport, not because the game is actually growing here among non-illegal immigrants.

And why is your MLS expanding then? Even Minnesota is getting a team, must be because of the millions of Mexicans living there....

Expansion=/=evidence of growing popularity. More like owners willing to take a risk to see if they can profit.

For example, baseball's popularity is nearly non-existent in Florida (you would think otherwise with the Cuban population there) but that didn't stop owners from expanding into the state with two more teams.

Look at the bottom 3 teams here:

    http://www.baseball-reference.com/le...015-misc.shtml

Two from Florida. I honestly don't know how those franchises are still in operation, and they even built a 515 million dollar stadium for the Marlins!

Sometimes these moves don't make sense on the surface.
