I'm not Canadian, I arrived few years ago. Part of my ancestry is from central Castile. Keep in mind that Real Madrid is from there too.
son .. your football knowledge is certainly at a canadian level. Spanish people are very knowledgeable football fans tbh.

The problem with not sending good squads for Copa América is that at some point Brazil had less than half the les (4?) of Argentina or Uruguay (around 14), and they started sending good teams with Ronaldo and Romario included otherwise it was very difficult to win.

In '11 Argentina really wanted the cup with Messi, since it was hosted by Argentina and they didn't win anything in long time. But Uruguay won.

I think Brazil sent their best squad, Neymar included, to the '15 edition. Same Argentina with Messi, Agüero and Di Maria. Chile won.

About Uruguay, I'm sure they are going to win another World Cup at some point in the future. I wouldn't agree they didn't have chances the times they made it to the semi finals.
It's only a problem if you actually give a . Uruguay and Argentina have 29 Copa America les together, Brazil has 8. Yet, Brazil has 5 WCs and they have 2. That actually proves my point. It doesn't mean . Before the creation of Copa America , it was a random amateur tournament with no playoffs.
If it was so difficult, how Brazil won 2 Copa Americas in row with C rosters (2004 and 2007) ? They sent Ronaldo twice when he was very young. Brazil won both times and Ronaldo never played it again.

Now it's definitely getting bigger, more organized and professional, but that was not the case in the past. I hope Uruguay wins a WC once again too. I have nothing but respect for them.

Everyteam sends their A team to the Copa America now that is played every 4 years. The only reason you didn't know is 'cause you want gold medal.
Yes it's definitely getting better and bigger now, not the case in the past. And yes Brazil is definitely pursuing the gold medal, as they should. That's why Neymar wasn't playing in this Copa America.

Brazil perhaps has a larger pool of good players, and the others teams were not at their best in '04 and '07. In '15 they didn't advanced much with the best players. Bad luck, better opponents, bad coach, change of generation, a lot of factors.

England thought the WC didn't mean much, until '50. Then they lost their first WC game to US amateurs. Times change.
