Kerr was big in that series, and Captain Jack hit some big shots in the finals clincher. But overall, it was the Timmy show. And there was a reason guys were getting such open looks

Dirk was a one way player who played no part in slowing down LeChoke & got outplayed by Jason Terry in the last 2 games of the Finals

How come Duncan never replicated 2003 playoff run the years following. In 2005, he had the ankles, rolled them in reg season game in Detroit and playoff game in Seattle. Better supporting cast, less weight to carry.

2003 Tim was playing at like a top three player of all-time level. He was so good it was ridiculous.

By 2005 Manu had grown into a star player. Thank god because we needed him to be. Tony didn't really play well in the playoffs consistently until 2007.

Did you miss his 2006 series against the Mavs?:

Besides, he was an absolute beast in the 2002 playoffs & dominated PEAK Shaq. The Spurs lost b/c Speedy/Jack/Manu weren't on the roster.

I do remember that series. It was ONE series. He looked unstoppable vs Mavs. Every time they threw the ball to him I felt he was gonna score. Unfortunately I felt the same way every time the Mavs had the ball. They started game 7 shooting 85%, 17-20.

The way they started out that game 7 I said this could be a loooong night.

Just finished watching 2006 Heat DVD. They bricked all those shots in the finals. Game 6, open shot after open shot, brick, brick, brick.

Duncan is a very clutch player. The only series in 2007 he needed to dominate was against the Suns. He did just that.

Duncan played poorly vs Nets in game 2. One of the worst games I'v seen from him. He was splendid in the last two games. He made an all star in Kenyon Martin look like a D-leaguer.

Nessler is a good football guy. Didn't like him (or Al Michaels) for basketball.

Remember coming across this last year and seems relevant to this topic.

Regardless, 2003 Tim was obviously better than current LeBron. People are quick to forget how mediocre LeBron was in Games 1-4 (a big reason why they went down 3-1 in the first place).

03 was his peak. Like you said, he had the ankles in 05 but in the 06 and 07 Playoffs he was probably the best player in the NBA.

He was basically just as good in 02 but had absolutely no help. In the Lakers WCSF he put up 29/17/5/5 but his cast was a rookie Parker, Bowen, Robinson who missed half the series and Antonio Daniels. The disparity between his GameScore for the series and the next best Spur is disgusting: Duncan had a 23.3, Parker was 2nd with an 8.2 (a GameScore of 10 is considered average )

2005 he also went up against one of the best defensive front lines. They were brutal, and Tim said Sheed was his toughest defender

Well considering no one ever did what he did in the first place in all of history I would say that it must be hard to do it once...let alone twice.

2002 wasn't one series though, he destroyed Vin Baker/Jerome James & the series went to 5 b/c Tim missed Gm 4 to attend his father's funeral.

    Vs. Seattle: 25.8/11.0/5.5/5.8 BLOCKS!
    Vs. Lakers: 29.0/17.2 /4.6 /1.0/3.2

The Spurs had a lead going into the 4th quarter of EVERY game against the Lakers & would have beaten them if they had Manu/Jack/Speedy who were the closers in 2003.

Tim won B2B MVP In '02/'03 & played like it in the postseason unlike Nash('05/'06) & LeBron ('09/'10) who also won B2B MVPs in that decade.

Duncan's peak occurring during the "dark days" of the NBA is a shame, tbh..it has given many fans and media the false perception that prime Duncan was just a superior version of 2011-2014 Tim playing on a loaded supporting cast where they shared the load
