Why? He is going to be in a suit the entire season again. From what I've heard & seen he is a pretty cheap guy, so I bet he is doing it for a check and getting the best seat in the house and travel. I can't blame him though. Hopefully the Spurs aren't stupid enough to bring him back. Though they were last year after seeing he was done in the 2014-2015 season.
He's obviously a great practice, morale and locker-room guy or he wouldnt have lasted this long. No reason he can't stay on in the organisation, but it's time for him to free up that spot for youth.
I know the front office and teammates all love Matty BonBon but it's really time to hang the boots up. He won't help you win a playoff series, he'll hardly play in the regular season. Why waste a roster spot on him? He'd be just as beneficial as a coach, in the front office or in the background anywhere in the organization. Give his spot to a young athletic fella and see what happens. He'll either suck or will be a diamond in the rough.
He is 36 years old, played only 30 games this season and averaged 6.9 minutes. He didn't even play in the playoffs this year. Seriously, what's the point? Keeping or getting rid of Bonner isn't going to win or lose you a championship. It's simply time to move on.
Hang up the New Balance and get yourself a suit and a seat next to Becky.
I don't want Bonner on the roster as much as the next guy, but he's far from someone who just wants a paycheck. Even with his minimum salary over the last few seasons I'm sure he still has plenty of money. If he's not the cheapest SOB in the league he's damn close.
As others have said...fine with a place in the organization but keep that roster spot open. I'm willing to bet that's exactly what's going to happen...that or he will be on the roster to begin with and will be cut when a better end of the bench option comes available(which will transition into a job with the organization).

At this point, if the Spurs are ever so desperate that they are forced to put Bonner on the floor, their season is ed anyway. He'd be a canary in the coal mine on the bench.

Never got the Bonner hate on this forum... I hope he can stay too. Great teammate, plays within his role, and doesn't complain about it.
Ridiculous if he stays.
He was never reliable in the playoffs even in his prime and now he can barely help in the RS. Don't hate the guy, but he is a waste of a roster spot.
