I think your average Brit racist didn't factor that bit into their "out of the EU" vote.

    Whoops.

England could do better without Scotland than Scotland could do without England.

With the North sea "easy" oil play gone and $50 oil the new norm economically it pretty well sucks to be Scotland.

They voted to remain in the UK on the premise that their EU status would be preserved. Now that's out of the window, it's a free-for all.

Even Northern Ireland wants to reunite with the Republic now...

Or they could do better with the EU than they could be with Britain because that is why they would be leaving: to rejoin the EU.

In other words, the EU might be gaining another ty economy to support.

Good for them. I hope they grow a pair and go independent, but unfortunately, they're still an über-liberal welfare state that lives off handouts from Britain. They'll talk tough about seceding like they do every other year, but they'll never go through with it for real.

Scotland's vote was nearly 60% remain. I doubt the SNP or any of their rivals dismiss the prospect of another referendum on Scottish independence as lightly as you do.

I'm sure Deutsche bank will be happy to loan Scotland all the money it needs to keep the welfare state going if it votes to stay. They can be the new Greece.

I'm not dismissing the chance of another referendum. I'm sure they'll hold one. I just doubt that Scotland will ever actually vote in favor of secession. They'll talk a big game, but when push comes to shove and their handouts are on the line, they'll vote to stay in the UK.

Because as long as the socialists are in charge to run Scotland into the ground, they're ed if they get off the teat, and they know it. I suppose they could just start leeching off of Germany instead if they got into the EU, but it's not like that's guaranteed to happen even if they secede.

    What?

Scotland will have a second referendum and be gone in the next two years. They deserve it, since they were smart enough unlike Wales and England to not fall into the rightwingnut 'dey took er jerbs' populist propoganda and actually voted in.

Scotland should tread lightly. If more countries drop the EU, Scotland could find itself begging to rejoin the UK.

You could make the same argument about the UK:

The UK should tread lightly. If more countries become independent and join the EU, the UK could find itself begging to rejoin the EU.

More likely it'll be as Trump said - more countries leaving the EU - Switzerland withdraws longstanding application to join EU (BEFORE BREXIT):

Seems to me that the richer countries don't want to foot the bill for nations like Greece, Spain, Portugal, and Italy which are in financial trouble.
