HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) --
The Hollywood Walk of Fame's class of 2017 was announced on Tuesday and includes names such as late singer Selena Quintanilla, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Tyra Banks, Chris Pratt, Amy Adams, Ice Cube, John Legend, and Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor Gustavo Dudamel.
Quintanilla, the "Queen of Tejano music," was one of two posthumous honorees. The other was film composer Jerry Goldsmith.
Quintanilla was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldívar in 1995. She was just 23 years old.

Gotta say I just don't understand the Selena obsession
Half of this board is Latino as is most of San Antonio, so naturally there'll be an obsession.
I thought her music was pretty catchy.
Most of it was bc of the J Lo movie.
She wasn't that popular outside of South Texas before the movie. She had 2 songs on the radio for awhile. Most great artists have had more than 2 hits.
Another star that died that I never understood the hype for was Amy Winehouse. She had one ok song. It's not like she was friggin' John Lennon or some pioneer Blues artist like BB King
I wasn't much of a fan of her English songs, but I liked some of her Spanish . Como la Flor especially.
Tbh I thought Selena was already in there. She's only been dead for like 20 years..
And she was a music goddess. At the same time, this Walk of Fame has been so muddied with ty "stars" it doesn't mean anything anymore. It's like getting bolded here in 2016. It lost it's meaning.
Getting shot doesn't make her any better than she was, just made her more popular. Same with Elvis. He was a memory, all fat and dying in Vegas eating cold ing leftover buffet food and then he croaks and suddenly he's the greatest ever.
holy I lost it![]()
I suppose. I'm latina but from west Texas. The obsessions out there were always Ozzy and Rush
Actually, the first time I heard of Selena was the day she died. I was working in ICU and a family came in saying they travelled from Mc Allen to see their sick relative, and at the same time they were weepy and informed me they had just heard Selena died. Not knowing who Selena was I thought it was the relative they were looking for, so I spent a couple minutes walking around the unit looking for a deceased patient named Selena![]()
Her s om doesn't even extend to the point where she's THE "Selena" anymore. There's a consensus in music and everyone knows who you're talking about when you say "Paul", "Michael", "Bruce", etc. (Obviously the more unusual names...Elvis, Beyonce, etc). But today if you say "Selena", my guess is that most people are not thinking of Quintanella.
It's so bad in San Antonio. I'm like she's been dead for 20 years, let it go already.
Michael who?
Michael Jackson, unless you're in an environment like this and it's Micahele Jordan.
Bruce Hornsby!
I also had never heard of her till she got killed
her she wasn't one of our kind tbh
why is rock gettin a star? his like this decades version of nic cage, accepts any movie role, but doesnt put a long impression on viewers to remember about...
Why is Chris Pratt getting a star?
Selena getting a star is like the Spurs retiring the coveralls of the guy who cleans the ter at the practice facility.
