The NBA should have phased in the cap increases. These giant leaps will inevitably lead to some TURRIBLE economic situations for teams. Can a hard cap be far off?
Yep. To make things worse, guys already know that it's going up a lot next year. They don't want to sign a contract this year that will look small by next year's standards. So they all think they deserve the max slice of team cap space. I'm thinking there just may not be enough money left to over-pay some mid-tier guys, and they may get salaries more in line with last season.

Like TD21 said, they didn't just pull these cap numbers out of thin air. There's a reason why the cap went up - league revenue is higher than it's ever been. It's not like teams are being forced to pay guys more without making more money themselves. Have you seen some of these TV deals? These teams are making an absolute ton of money.

Actually, LMA attending the Great Durant Courtship Ritual makes sense.

He is going to communicate to Durant the ease with which he acclimatized to the Spurs system, among other things.

This obviously means the Spurs are serious courtiers. The courtship of Durant has a Game of Thrones feel to it, hahahahaha.

I can see SA taking a flier on Ben Mclemore
I'd be in favor of that. Spurs need an athletic guard.

Guys like Mclemore and James Ennis start looking like much better gambles. The amount you have to commit is just so small. And if one of them steps up like Bazemore, it's a real home run.

Bradley effing Beal is going to average more than $25M per year. Good gracious. And these contracts are fully guaranteed? Monopoly money. Unreal.

Exactly. If SAC blows big money on Waiters () then I would try hard to pry him away.

Where do they play? Spurs are loaded at wing as it is. It's their most loaded position. Why use assets to keep stock-piling?

They usually only go 5-6 deep at the wing.

Kawhi/Green -- Manu (maybe) /Simmons/Anderson/Bertans/LJC (combo more of a PF)/ Murray (combo more of a PG). That's 7-8 guys on the roster who can play the SF or SG, even though LJC is a PF/Murray a PG first.

I don't know if you saw Ennis at the end of the season, but that bas just lit it up. It was such a small sample, but he could really be a steal.

The Spurs should have (and perhaps they still will) concentrate on trades not free agents - if only they can be less Spursy in their loyalties. There is much greater value in acquiring an existing contract (especially one that still has 3 years remaining) than in overpaying a free agent. The Durant meeting is a head scratcher. Perhaps both sides are going through the motions because each earns a little cache from being on the other's list.

I'm not surprised it's the real teams that are handing out these ridiculous contracts starting off. Gotta pay up for free agents to come to some of these teams.
