God I hope the Bertans deal is longer than two years
Would have rather spent Pau's money on a Plumlee-Dedmon combo, tbh
God I hope the Bertans deal is longer than two years
you forgot about Manu
someone needs to create simmons can of he can not turn it over
manu is going to denver he talked to them when he was a fa once already
no way in Manu isn't in a Spurs uni
You know, running the numbers, I don't think the Spurs NEED to trade Diaw at all if they intend to stretch Tim. They should have JUST enough to complete this deal. That also means that stretching Tim and trading Diaw gives them about $7 Million they could use on bring in about big man (and hopefully not use on Manu's ass) or to retain Boban.
Player Salary/Hold LaMarcus Aldridge $20,575,005 Kawhi Leonard $17,638,063 Pau Gasol $14,669,927 Tony Parker $14,445,313 Danny Green $10,000,000 Boris Diaw $6,500,000 Patty Mills $3,578,948 Tim Duncan (Stretched) $2,131,250 Kyle Anderson $1,192,080 Livio Jean-Charles $990,700 Dejounte Murray $983,400 Jonathan Simmons $874,636 Roster Charge $543,471 Total $94,122,793 Remaining Cap Space $20,207
And what he said back in 04 was that he would have left if it was an offer that was substantially more, but the Spurs offer was close enough that he decided to stay.
Now maybe Manu will finally get that substantially bigger offer I guess.
Which team left has the cap space and need for Boban?
I love Manu but if he's offered double or triple from another team given this is his last chance to make some cash, then I wouldn't blame him.
Hopefully Bertans is better than Durant tbh.
As lng as he wants the minimum sure
This is what I have too. This is why I'd be surprised if Spurs did not bring back a rookie or min contract in Diaw dump.
Stretching Tim plus trading Diaw leaves Spurs enough space for Gasol, Boban at 5.6 plus a min/rookie deal coming back in deal.
What is surprising is that they didn't have this deal ready to go. Seems like they're looking for it now. Odd.
Portland? They love biting off the Spurs, that's for sure.
Brooklyn I think has room after the Crabbe rumor was premature. Brook Lopez starts but is a trade asset. And Marks has a relationship with him.
He's been terrible the last 2 seasons, gotta wonder how cheap he will be? Probably not cheap enough.
Why would Spurs be trading Diaw's contract and not Tim's if Tim is 100% NOT playing? Or is the door being kept open through that?
Nope. SA has to sign Manu with what they have left.
Atlanta might will have greater than mle room, but have Splitter for one more year plus Taveres.
Phoenix should have cap space but plenty of bigs.
Minnesota might still have room but plenty of bigs.
Chicago might have some room, not sure after the Rondo signing. Team is being built for Hoiberg, don't know if Boban fits.
Utah might have space but a lot of bigs.
OKC might have some new room but too many bigs.
More and more I think the FO was surprised by Tim opting in. That and Durant wait plus unpredictable results of the new cap made this off season a bit chaotic for "schemers" like RC.![]()
get rid of tp and boris to make room for: gasol, manu, robinson.
To those who understand the numbers, can Tim retire and come back mid season or post all-star break if someone gets injured and we need him?
If I were the Spurs, I would just stretch Tim right now. I'd tell him if that he could take as long as he wanted to decide and that when he did, there'd be a minimum contract waiting for him. That would actually represent an increase for Duncan if he were to take that deal, so I don't see why he wouldn't go for it. Then I'd tell other teams that we can sign Gasol without dealing Diaw so if they want Boris, they need to trade value for him. Then I'd see where Tim was on coming back. If he says no, then I use that space to sign a big like Dedmon. If he says yes, then I use the cap space on a guard first (because once again, please no Manu) before inking Tim, Bertans and the rookies.
Can you resign someone who you just stretched?
