I am not sure if we did - the rules are a little murky to me. However, Trade exceptions count against cap ; we would have to renounce it to have the space to sign Gasol...
Too bad.... he was a very good mobile defender.

Spurs have to renounce the TPE for Gasol
Forget Gay, he's too expensive. How about we free McLemore. He's sucked but he has all the tools to be good. He's on the trading block. Spurs could save his career. He's on a rookie deal; seems like a trade could be possible.
I wonder if that's ever been tried? Sign Bonner to an almost fully non-guaranteed contract (guaranteed amount equal to the vet min) to match Gay's but with a guarantee date of October 1. Then after the trade is done the Kings waive Bonner.
That's such a big loophole that it can't be right. But I don't know enough about the CBA to know which rule that violates.
I think sign and trade deals have to be at least three years. And new FA can't be traded till 12/1 and one year contract guys need to give sign off on a trade.
Not sure what the date is on contracts becoming guaranteed for the whole year.
But could be a very interesting loophole!
There was the time that Zkeith Van Horn had been retired for a year or so, and his team brought him out of retirement and signed him to a contract so they could include him in a trade and then traded him with other assets. Keith stayed retired but was still used as an asset to complete a trade for salary purposes.
Where now is our greek center?????

Anyone but Bourousis![]()
S&T deals have to be for a least three years with the first season guaranteed. Bogans was the last filler S&T guy I remember.
Yep. League closed that loophole almost immediately.
Good one! I never miss the Greekfest!
What would it take to get McLemore?...he seems like he has the tools to be a '3 & D' guy, we need an extra wing defender off the bench now, anyway.
I forgot about the Van Horn thing. That might have been his most valuable contribution to the league.
A few years back, the Lakers still held rights to a guy (don't feel like dredging up his name) who had been out of basketball for something like 3-4 years. He was actually an assistant coach at some college. The Lakers signed him, and used him in a trade. He got a load of money for absolutely nothing, because it was impossible that he could actually come back and play. I think it was part of the Gasol trade, and to do that the player is supposed to be legitimately trying to come back and play. EVERYONE knew he couldn't, and wasn't going to try. But the league let it happen with a nudge and a wink, and the Lakers got their deal done.
But everyone here says Simmons is already 27.
Only 28 ... but already 27???
You people know they make pills for this.
I think patty mills would do it
Forbes or Hanlan for last roster spot, who will get it?
Mills is better than Sacramento dude, not a good trade
Trade idea: danny green and murray for gordon hayward... Utah afraid to lose hayward for nothing as he free agent next summer and we need firepower to try and compete with gsw...
There's not point in trading for prospects. The team has plenty of potential guys now. They need to look at legit high-caliber guys if they look at all, especially given the initial condition of them trying to get utility out of Tim's contract.
Isn't Hayward a SF? I do like him as a player...
He can play both positions, you can also play Patty with him while Hayward being in playmaker role a la Manu...
