can u imagine that bench without manu? Anderson leading the bench unit? F me![]()
Stokes is short bro. No place for him in San Antonio with Gasol, Aldridge,Anderson, Dedmon, Bertans eating all the bigs minutes.

Sorry - I missed that. If that's what you were saying, I'll accept the "dumbass" comment. This is just one of those nights when I'm not in the mood to take unnecessary , or listen to someone saying ridiculously stupid things like "Barkley was 6'4". Great use of the mug shot, BTW. That says it better than words ever could.
Stokes could be as tall as 6'7" - I hear various claims. It's impossible to get that specific, just from seeing him next to a few other guys. There are print references from college showing him at both 6'6" and 6'7" (then all of a sudden they started listing him at 6'8" or even 6'9". He didn't have a growth spurt.) But he's definitely short to be playing the C. If he really is 6'7", then his standing reach is a little below average for that height. And if you're going to play the 4 or 5 under-height, you need to be above average.
He was taller than Murray when he was standing beside him and shorter than Kyle. I'd have to go with 6'7 or 6'8.
Fathead/Bertans aren't keeping Tristan/Love off the offensive boards, Stokes is built to bang w/ those guys.
They wont but they will play those minutes when they're playing ty ass teams so even against ty teams..the minutes wont be available for him
Thanks for sharing. I got to agree on Stokes. I don't think he ever makes it past garbage time personally and you are right it's a shame bc he's got good instincts on the boards, does a lot of blue collar things that stand out and was active running the floor and in PnR. I suspect in upcoming games they see him as a 4, just bc the way it's looking so far its Kyle as a bench 4. There are bound to be bench forwards like Dwest and Boris that will manhandle him in the post. You have to have a body to put out there on those guys... maybe that is Stokes. They also have LJC but I don't know how playable he is. We have to see if he's made improvements from last season.
I keep thinking Cady is a candidate bc he can play two positions, but even with all of Cady's standing reach and bigger body, he didn't have a better game than Stokes for example, and this was Cady's better game.
Ndoye is a legit big, but I was underwhelmed in this game that he struggled rebounding. He was active otherwise, and is definitely athletic for a guy who is a legit center, but he's obviously not skilled and him not running a decent PnR off a lob pass from Murray didn't look good.
I don't have a frontrunner myself.
thanks Emperor for sharing those pics... I'm sure you had a good time with that buzzer beater![]()
The NBA combines are the most legit source for bio-metrics & Stokes was measured at 6'7" & he had a below average standing reach b/c he doesn't have long limbs. Carl Landry is a guy who most resembles Stokes as far as standing reach, no step vertical & body fat. Stokes has about 10 lbs of muscle on him while landry has about an inch on Stokes.

Landry was a very effective role player before he blew-out his knee:
Boban was playing behind D-Worst/Diaw but he still got minutes in garbage time. Stokes/Bertans are going to be the new Boban/Butler.
Not Tristan but neither is Stokes TBH. Tristan is an elite big... that's got to be Pau or LMA duty. Love, I'd throw Kyle out there and Pop already did last season in that game we lost, and we did not lose it bc of Kyle if you remember. Kyle boxed out Love well enough and got lit up at one point, but so did LMA and every other big. Just one of those games from Love. Kyle did got at Love too. He's got to grow, there is no other way but to throw him to the wolves out there and Pop will.
Bertans I don't know. He didn't rebound well even in Euroleague and other than his shooting I don't think that he does anything else well. He's one of those guys that has to be hot to be out there. But hopefully he proves me wrong.
Love figured out his role in Gm 7 of the the Finals & will have to stick to it unless he wants to get traded for Cousins.
Blair gave the Mavs quality minutes in the 2014 playoffs, that's going to be Stokes role.
Man..this is going to be another long ass offseason. When is training camp? Septmeber?
Yeah, I learned to be skeptical of measurements, even from the combines. I don't know how it happens, but I've seen them miss some pretty badly. But you're right, they are the most legit source we've got. (Actually the European measurements are almost always legit, but that's another story.)
For whatever reason, the standing reach numbers always seem to be pretty accurate - or at least pretty meaningful. Kawhi has a standing reach of 8'9" which is just freakish for his height - and you can see the results on the floor. Blake Griffin has a standing reach of "just" 8'9" (not good considering his height), but he jumped over a freaking car and dunked the ball. The point is, the guys with that kind of unusual athleticism are instantly recognizable, and Stokes isn't one of them.
I'm really tired of arguing about it. We'll see what happens as the season gets closer, but I still say that if he makes the regular season roster, it will be a feel-good story. But it won't be a feel-good season if the Spurs are reduced to giving him regular minutes. If he's not getting minutes, then it really doesn't matter who's sitting in that spot on the bench.
Even at this level, you need team mates that will help you to score. Forbes needs to be able to receive balls at the right spot. Simmons can't beat people from the dribble. Anyway, team play is a mess and I don't see why we need Anderson on the court to play hero ball.
Jesus Christ. If fathead plays backup 4.....
Stokes is only 22 and he's a bruiser. Pick him up.
Also at the people worried about his height....lol. He's a power forward. Those don't come in at 6'11 anymore, they're centers now. In today's league 6'8-6'9 is the perfect size.
Final play:
Watch the complete lack of enthusiasm by Murray. Right now, he's still an immature kid with an inflated ego (courtesy of Lebron James' agent).
Hope he spends all his time in the D-league getting over himself.
Yea, Dejounte isn't a towel waver that's for sure
Still looks a lot better than the first two picks in the draft though![]()
He is upset with Simmons lack of passing and taking bad shots all summer...
26 pts as he led the team to a rout is the headline I'm seeing.
Is this sarcasm?
Gotta say the same about Parker then too. Even Pop showed enthusiasm but not Tony.
The first half of last night's game literally put me to sleep. Went back and watched the second half this morning.
- Dejounte still looks good. There are some warts in his game, but nothing terrible. He doesn't seem like an unwilling passer to me. He's confident, maybe y, but a camp with the Spurs will beat that out of him. I think he didn't react to the Simmons game-winner really well because he was still worrying about trying to advance the rebound he got, which he got yelled at for. Not knowing the rules would be kind of embarrassing. I doubt he was angry that someone else got the game winner.
- Stokes looks okay to me. I was impressed with his hustle and his smarts. He missed a layup, got his own rebound, and -unlike almost every other big in the world- turned around and fired the ball out to a teammate to reset the possession instead of trying for another contested shot in the paint. He had several really nice passes to teammates and he's very physical. He's not any more dominant in the summer league than Jeff Ayres, but you'll almost always take a smart, energetic rebounder on your team.
- I seem to recall that a lot of ST thought Cady should work on his three pointer, and he didn't look like a useful big last summer. Cady looks like he's really worked on his big man skills, from rebounding to shot blocking to just minding the paint. It's a big turnaround from last year. We'll know more once we see him and LJC in the same game.
- After seeing Forbes the last couple of games, I'm even more hopeful that we'll see Hanlan get some minutes going forward.
