Murray will tighten up a lot of things once PATFO gets a hold of him. He plays as if he is the best player on the court that can get away with rec ball skills; pop will sic danny and kawhi on him for a little humbling in training camp. He'll be fine I truly believe

Kyle on the other hand still plays way too soft and passive! I need him to display some hunger / assertiveness while playing his game

They can get a player with upside for him, but he's still in his rookie deal. If you have a guy on a rookie deal with some potential, that is a guy you hold on to, IMO. He's just 20. The tough aspect on him I guess is that his finishes were at the rim and that is not there for him in the same way in the NBA. Needs more of a PF game and plays like a Center I guess. But again, he's just 20 yrs old sooo young, Dijon's age basically.
Vonleh made one 3-ball and a couple of mid-range shots, I thought. You are right - his contract is great. But the Blazers seem to have a pretty crowded front court.

    Murray
Well he had a tough game today. He showed improved decision making but his flaws were on full display tonight and that is poor FG% and turnovers. 3-13 from the field and 6 turnovers. He had good shots tonight he just didn't finish them. It's like R.C. said he needs to work on his finishing. I see that now. Too soon to day game 1 was a fluke but if he continues to miss at this rate, it'd be alarming. On a good note his three ball looked on point today.

    What I'd like to see:

i'd like to see him more in the pick and roll and as a facilitator. More distribution and the occasional drive in the paint. The floaters were hit or miss tonight so less of these and reset the ball. Layups and open threes. And for his own good the occasional mid range j. He needs more discipline and education on shots that are the highest percentage and then he needs to focus on them.

As for turnovers, he just needs to make the simple play. Too many times he puts a little too much style on ball when he can just get it there. That's probably why Arci got some of his minutes in the fourth.

Can he do these things while maintaining his iden y though? Is he just a playground type player that shoots inefficient shots and makes questionable passes?

Yeah, he definitely needs time and plenty of solid influences surrounding him. While most think Austin is best for him, I'm starting to think he needs to be around character players first to build a foundation, and that's with the big team. You don't want bad coaching or bad influences around this kid at all. Yes, he needs time but he also needs great coaching and leadership. He needs the Spurs culture.

I could see it if they need help in another area but they already have pretty terrific guards.

Forbes, i think the spurs need to give this guy a shot to make the team in training camp. He's just a smart basketball player who can really shoot

Is he already signed for the upcoming season or not?
He's signed to a 1-year contract if I'm not mistaken.

On a couple of plays, Vonleh backed him to the bucket with ease. Kyle is capable of being more assertive, however, and he showed a flash or two last season - especially boxing out and defensive boarding. He just needs to play that way consistently, which he hasn't so far.

I think they will be #4 in the West. They impressed me with the moves they made to recover from their massive defections last season, and they put the pieces together well and quickly. Stotts should have been Coach of the Year, IMHO.

He only took 10 shots all game bc Kyle was involved in some heavy ball denial that caused shot clock violations. Once he got the ball though, Kyle got beat, once he gambled and it didn't pay off. The other he was backed down, but he didn't put much resistance either. In reality if Vonleh had gotten the ball enough he could have dominated for sure. He went at Cady too.

Murray took good shots many just rimming out. No complaints here.
except he's always been inefficient, even against NCAA compe ion. "just rimming out" has largely been the norm for him.

He needs to get used to taking higher % shots period. Too much flash not enough substance. When he's hitting it looks good but when he's off it's low %. Look at his first game in Utah. It was layups. He couldn't get to the rim tonight so he shot mid range j's and floaters for the most part. Just needs to look at film and take some good counsel imo

edit: He missed some easy layups too so that added up. But yes they were good shots cause he was open they just are not good shots overall cause they can be inefficient if you're not on.

Body strength will help him score inside, Chip will help him hit it outside, coaching will help his decisions. I ain't concerned.

I talked to Bertans again as we were leaving. He said hes hopeful to play on Tuesday's game against the Bulls. Saw Jean-Charles there too, but didn't get around to talking to him. Also talked with RC, Brent Barry, Arcidiacono and Ndoye. All very nice.

damn... 1-6 assist-to ratio. That spells trouble for his career.

You've never been to Summer League I'm guessing. You should go. If you really think I'm making this up then I already have my answer. People like Buddy Hield and Shabazz Napier are just hanging out in the stands between games. It's all very matter-of-fact and informal. Pretty incredible event to attend.

I made a subtle attempt at a troll using one of the classic terminologies in this case. Yeah, but I would love to go.

Did people forget how ty George Hill was in the Summer League despite being 22.

Throughout the summer league Hill struggled with his shooting, making only 2 of 25 shots (8.0%), and one of six three-pointers (16.7%).

Vonleh was compared to Chris Bosh when he was drafted, he's supposed to be a PF.

No Chris Bosh resemblance whatsoever. What impressed me is that he's that strong for a guy that young and he's very explosive. He's got definite "potential", but he allowed himself to get denied the ball by Kyle and he didn't go at Kyle enough. When he did he was successful, but it was only a couple of times. I think he's precisely the kind of guy that would have given everyone in the team problems. But that Portland team had very poor guard play. Napier is more like a chucker. Portland wasn't even doing that well b4 Napier got hit in the head. Other than a 3 Vonleh took I don't know what else he can do. It's not like he's going to be high usage. Oh yikes, 6 TO by Vonleh.

One big problem is he has virtually no left hand at the rim which makes some shots difficult because he tries to make them right handed when left handed is the far better option. A mid range/ outside shot and left hand would make him a solid lottery quality pick.
