Trying to hold back the tears reading and watching the comments and vids in this thread. It feels like losing a family member even tho he's alive and well lol. I'm 24 and live in New Braunfels Tx ( not far from SA ) I grew up watching and respecting this man. Thank you for memories Timmy and for putting all of South Texas on the map. You made us champions.
    GOAT tbh..

Tim Duncan retiring - it is a bittersweet moment. Without a doubt, my favorite player of all-time. I have a bit of moisture clouding my eye as I write this. All the memories over the many years, both good and bad. The ups, and the downs. 1999, winning that first le in NYC. 2003, that CRAZY Game 6 comeback and the near-quadruple double statline. 0.4. And that's just the first few years. I could talk about Timmy's past achievements all day, which is why he belongs in the top 5 of your GOAT lists.

In the end, he did what was best for him. After 19 seasons of doing what was best for the Spurs and his team, even taking multiple paycuts to help sign or resign players, that's the least the Spurs organization and the city can afford him now.The fact he lasted to 40 years old in the NBA is a testament to his work ethic, so one can't really nag him for moving on at this point.

Of course, now it is time for the Spurs to move on as well. How a team moves on from a player - or should I say, how a team BEGINS a new era WITHOUT a player like Tim Duncan, only time will tell. I fear the Spurs falling into mediocrity without the big fundamental's leadership, yet another part of me feels like maybe this is a defining moment for the rest of the Spurs, especially Kawhi Leonard.

Will he be the MVP of the League and lead us into a new era of Spurs history - the Kawhi era?

In any case... good bye, old man. You will be fiercely missed, for your play on the court and your leadership off of it.

Everytime I think about it, I still feel so sad. I can't believe we won't see him hugging the ball before tipoff anymore. Or hear his name when the starting lineup is announced. So Sad

One thing to be considered: If KG and Paul Pierce both retire as well (as expected), we could have one of the greatest HOF Classes of all time.

    -Duncan
    -Kobe
    -Garnett
    -Pierce

I think Pierce announced he was coming back and finishing out his contract.

Don't want any part of KG at Tim's ceremony. That said, maybe he doesn't even show up...

Congratu lations on your retirement, TD. Now you will get a chance to enjoy your kids as they grow up and to enjoy all your hobbies.
Thank you for those 5 championships.
I hope you can still participate in the HEB commercials, maybe as a visitor to the Spurs antics.

No doubt. While at the time that did not hurt as much as 6, over the long run, it is worse because of the ring a year after 6.

    Three worse Spurs moments IMO:
    1. .4
    2. 6
    3. Manu fouls Dirk

#5 . That's why I never felt sorry for Seattle fans losing their team and I'm glad that was their last moment of playoff basketball. En led whiny fanbase.

I have nothing new to say in this thread but not saying thank you just feels wrong.

Thank you Tim and good luck!

The last 19 years were a great time to be a basketball fan and a Spurs fan.

I don't know man with 6 the trophy was rolled out and I think a lot of us thought our window had closed. It had been so long without a chip and so agonizing.. 6 made 5 so incredibly sweet. Doesn't matter though, just sad the wheels have fallen off. This is like a memorial service in here right now...I wonder if Pop chokes up at the press conference tomorrow.

Eh, as much of a gut punch 0.4 was at the time, I've come to accept it because I feel like it was far from a given that we would've gone all the way.

Spurs would still have to win one more against the Laker Supersquad, then a series against a very talented Minnesota squad (with prime KG, Sprewell, and Cassell), and THEN beat the same Detroit Pistons team who took them to 7 games a year later and were arguably playing stronger basketball that year.

The worst part about it really was that Duncan's shot will never get the credit it deserves because of Fisher.

Not only did 6 turn a sure thing into a bitter memory, but it also erased a clutch turnaround jumper AND three from Tony which would have gone down as two of of the biggest shots in Spurs history.
