He cant imagine playing with Magic because there wasnt unrestricted free agency.
"I couldn't imagine going to the Lakers and playing with Magic Johnson. I'd rather try to beat him, but these guys are different," Bird said when asked about Kevin Durant signing with the Warriors.
Today's NBA

He cant imagine playing with Magic because there wasnt unrestricted free agency.
pretty sure he was just addressing a point
Tbh he was already playing on a good team
Lebron left a ty Cavs team
But that clown KD left a contender it's not like OKC sucks
It's going to be disgusting seeing the media forget all his failures when they win next year and act like he's LeBron. How many les would LeBron have if he had Westbrook / Harden / Ibaka around him from age 21?
Bird played in a loaded team with a Great System. Dominos would have probably one more rings than him had he played in the ty 80s
Says the man that benefited from the league forcing Black players to let him score![]()
The idea of staying eternally loyal to the team that arbitrarily drafted you seems like a very old fashioned idea. Why wouldn't someone want the power to chose a coach, teammates, and city to live in? What other profession doesn't allow this freedom of choice?
Exactly
Lol players staying in holes
Love bird but why would he leave Mchale, Parish, DJ, ainge etc?
Only player on that level on OKC is Westbrook ...
And you mo fos have been ting on Russ for years.
"chimpbrook"
"Westbrick"
He shoots to much should feed durant more.
SO he leaves Russ for a system that focues on sharing the ball.
HE will probably score less get less personal accolades but he is a villain for choosing a team that plays with harmony like the Spurs?
I dont get all the hate.
He also had a stacked team, and Stern telling the black players to go easy on him. He had it made.
Its a stupid ing point. He was in Boston with multiple future hall-of- famers (as was Magic). If he was in Oklahoma city playing with one other all-star and there was unrestricted free agency would he have bailed?
Probably.
That particular hole boxed your ears from Oklahoma to Texas.
Additionally two of his starters in Bob Parish and Dennis Johnson were acquired via trade.
Pure B.S. by Bird, Jordan all the other Grandpa Simpsons who claim using free agency is wrong.
The rich got richer in Bird and Magic's day, too. Only in those days instead of players making their own decisions on where to play it was wealthy and competent organizations like the Celtics and Lakers taking advantage of poorly run and incompetent organizations. Whether it was Boston heisting Parish and McHale from the Warriors for Joe Barry Carroll or the Lakers heisting what turned out to be the top pick in the '82 Draft from the Cavaliers for Don Ford, the results were the same as they are now: the Haves getting over at the expense of the Have-Nots. That's the way it's been in this league for a long, long time.
Damn, Joe rings & gets wisdom in the bargain.
