The idea of staying eternally loyal to the team that arbitrarily drafted you seems like a very old fashioned idea. Why wouldn't someone want the power to chose a coach, teammates, and city to live in? What other profession doesn't allow this freedom of choice?

Its a stupid ing point. He was in Boston with multiple future hall-of- famers (as was Magic). If he was in Oklahoma city playing with one other all-star and there was unrestricted free agency would he have bailed?

The rich got richer in Bird and Magic's day, too. Only in those days instead of players making their own decisions on where to play it was wealthy and competent organizations like the Celtics and Lakers taking advantage of poorly run and incompetent organizations. Whether it was Boston heisting Parish and McHale from the Warriors for Joe Barry Carroll or the Lakers heisting what turned out to be the top pick in the '82 Draft from the Cavaliers for Don Ford, the results were the same as they are now: the Haves getting over at the expense of the Have-Nots. That's the way it's been in this league for a long, long time.
