Great minds... great minds
Dave was a moron. He actually pronounced it Jimmy Hendricks instead of Jimi Hendrix? What a complete idiot.
Great minds... great minds
And by the way , Hey Joe was released in the states in May of '67...before Monterrey (yep...I know these things). This is after it being a top 10 song in England.
So maybe Dave got it right but you were the out of touch idiot who heard "Jimmy Hendricks".
Bottom line is I was there in the 60's before Hendrix got big.
If this was a "who would you most likely punch in the face if you met them in person" contest then I'd probably choose luva. Something tells me that er has that smug ass 7/11 worker face, who stares at you with his beady eyes and upward sloping unibrow, each time you walk into their dilapidated store to grab a drink.
Hey stiupid....
Born in Seattle, Washington, Hendrix began playing guitar at the age of 15. In 1961, he enlisted in the US Army and trained as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division; he was granted an honorable discharge the following year. Soon afterward, he moved to Clarksville, Tennessee, and began playing gigs on the chitlin' circuit, earning a place in the Isley Brothers' backing band and later with Little Richard, with whom he continued to work through mid-1965. He then played with Curtis Knight and the Squires before moving to England in late 1966 after being discovered by Linda Keith, who in turn interested bassist Chas Chandler of the Animals in becoming his first manager. Within months, Hendrix had earned three UK top ten hits with the Jimi Hendrix Experience: "Hey Joe", "Purple Haze", and "The Wind Cries Mary". He achieved fame in the US after his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and in 1968 his third and final studio album, Electric Ladyland, reached number one in the US; it was Hendrix's most commercially successful release and his first and only number one album. The world's highest-paid performer, he headlined the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 before his accidental death from barbiturate-related asphyxia on September 18, 1970, at the age of 27.
See where it says....he acheived fame in the USA after....
Yes I confess as a HS kid I wasn't the music freak I would become.
But you still heard "Jimmy Hendricks". Being a music expert, I would have thought you became familiar with Jimi after he worked with the Isley Brothers, Little Richard, and Curtis Knight.
He was still on the radio and on tv. I'm sure plenty knew who he was.
and don't call me "stiupid".
Dude, I was yet to become a music expert, I was a junior in HS.
Rookies, sheesh~~~~~~~~
Dave had never heard of him and that was real obvious.
Stupid, what about high school kids just getting into music don't you get?
Yes, I listened to everything but wasnt yet into studying the origins at that age...ok? I was in my 30's when I started doing the research, learning about the history of it all.
So did this buffoon Dave drag out the m's in Jimmy when he said it? Is that how you knew he was saying JiMMy instead of Jimi? How did you know he was mispronouncing Hendrix? Is it because you know how the ck sounds in s and it upset you?
BOOM~~~~~~~~~~~~
So you finally figured out that yes I 'm a 67 year old who has seen it all.....right?
We all thought it was it Jimmy Hendricks. No way in some HS kids are seeing Jimi. Who ever knew a...Jimi? Go ahead give me a famous....Jimi. And who had ever saw....Hendrix? Go ahead give me another....Hendrix. We all had heard Jimmy and Hendricks. There were brothers Wayne and Tony Hendricks at school.
Stupid, what kid is thinking.....Jimi Hendrix....yep, none! Talking back then.
In high school, I could just about name any musician that was currently playing. Especially if they were on the radio or touring.
...after your admission, I suspect that I learned about Hendrix before you. And I wasn't even around while he was alive.
It's not like you had google or the internet to look up the name. How would you know if it was Jimmy or Jimi? What would it matter when he said the name? Did you scribble it all over your book covers?
So Dave went to the concert but never read any of the schedules or posters? Doubtful.
One of the big things back then was just who in the is Wolfman Jack?
Then there was all those TV westerns like....
Tombstone Territory
Fort Apache
Broken Arrow
Bat Masterson
Wyatt Earp
Wanted Dead or Alive
Sugarfoot
Maverick
Cheyenne
The Rifleman
Gunsmoke
Have Gun Will Travel
Bonanza
Bronco Laine
Hopalong Cassidy
The Gene Autry Show
Roy Rogers and Dale Evans
The Lone Ranger
Lash LaRue
Red Rider
Branded
Cochise
Death Valley Days
There was a Zorro on different that the Disney version. This Zorro had a gang with him and worshipped a stone God in a cave.

I have no doubts at all that Dave had no idea it was Jimi and Hendrix. And he did say...Hen-DRICKS and noway he'd know...Jimi instead of Jimmy.
BUT....the thing is is that yes I was still in HS in 67, I was a junior. Which is really what this is about.
I have a lot of fun with this.
Yes I was in Olongapo with the hookers but no I was never in Viet Nam, THEN WHAT THE WERE WE DOING THERE????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????
The navy doesn't...."hey want go to Olongapo for the of it?"

You know that we know you're a virgin, right? I bet your mom's boyfriend (this week) winks and slugs you in the arm before he takes your mom to the bedroom. Then you rush on here to post in order to provide a distraction from all the moaning and screaming.
