It hasn't started yet, and I can't wait for it to be over, tbh
No . Cruz's speech was the first RNC/DNC speech I have watched since the 92 election.

Why did Trump invite someone he spoke so badly about? This was a perfect night for Cruz to take his measured revenge.

Chances are that if I call you an ugly pig and your father a murderer that probably had a hand in the killing of Keneddy that you would not even look at me, let alone invite me into your own house.

    Trump ed up.
I think it was Trump's peace offering. He didn't have to invite him - he invited all his republican opponents - probably because he wanted to unite the party. It's ironic that the pledge they all agreed to which Trump was reluctant to agree to (but eventually did) - Kasich, Bush and Cruz refuse to endorse - broke their pledge.

It's in the Lord's prayer - Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us - I don't care what anyone says, I'll forgive - how can your heart belong to God if it's filled with hatred and bitterness against someone and if you won't forgive as God has forgiven you.

It gives Hillary ad material and the media fodder, but I don't think it hurts Trump with the voters.

Sheldon Adelson, a major Republican Party donor, even denied Cruz entry to his personal suite after his speech, according to CNN and BuzzFeed.

they're politicos, they'll sell their soul to Allah if they have to, to get a vote. This is particularly hilarious, because Trump is probably most phony guy when it comes to "christian values".

That's because Trump is now Adelson's and Cruz didn't toe that line like a good little boy.

I have no illusions about Trump - he didn't run primarily as a conservative Christian - he ran a populist campaign. The man doesn't even know II Corinthians is Second Corinthians. Cruz, otoh, ran on being a conservative Christian.

Teddy is another professional politician that will hit all the talking points the base wants to hear. It's not really an indictment on him, since that pretty much sums up almost every politico, tbh. He's just all about himself (as we've seen many times before, and tonight again).

I think rmt makes a good point. Yeah they are all politicians but Cruz is one who has built his base by claiming to be the bestest purest kind of christian.

the party label means jack over the course of that period of time, though.

the deep south suddenly switched from democrat to republican in the 60's. do you think party ideologies shifted, or do you think the entire southern populace decided to change their ideology and approach to politics and just willy nilly decide they're conservative republicans now

Trump had long ago walked back on the pledge, so that was no longer valid. And forgiveness doesn't mean endorsing a lunatic for president.

    Why? Trump isn't any better.

I don't like Cruz or Trump, but I respect Cruz sticking to his principles, even if it was a big FU to trup.
To me, Cruz is the best candidtate since i started voting in '08( and a lot longer, really) But I would have been fine with any of the other candidates, especially rubio or walker, or at least voted for them while holding my nose (kasich, christie, ...) but manchild Trump is just like Clinton and doesn't stand for one single thing i believe in.

But rmt also seems shocked that he didn't act like that kind of pure Christian he claims to be... And I'm saying, this should not be surprising at all.

This is a US Senator that's already campaigning for the 2020 election, and the 2016 election hasn't even happened yet.

Some peeps here ed about certain politician and president campaigning all the time. Well, that's exactly what Cruz is doing.

He talks the talk, but when it comes to walking the walk... That's a different story

Whatever Trump did with the pledge had no bearing (separate issue) on Kasich, Jeb and Cruz signing their pledge and breaking it. Republicans don't like that he came to the convention and broke his word in such a public manner when they're trying to unite the party - else stay home and don't sabotage the convention.

Repugs claiming to be the party of Lincoln in anything other than name only is just another HUGE REPUG LIE

Today's Repugs aren't even the party of Ike.
