As an olive branch extension to the soccer crew, instead of getting in a pissing contest over which sport has the better athletes, let's appreciate some impressive basketball feats by baseball and soccer players.

3rd Basemen Brett Lawrie throwing it down:

Mike Trout goofing around in street clothes.

    Trout beating Raymond in P-I-G

Obviously there's some fatasses in the sport (albeit athletic fatasses) but overall the most athletic people I've ever seen and played against were baseball players. The amount of hate on this board for baseball is pretty funny though.

Indeed. The soccer crew doesn't understand that baseball players, on average, will have the greatest core (upper-to-mid torso to hips) power relative to size out of all athletes in the major team sports, and athleticism in general starts from core strength.

I killed it. Greatest athlete in the world was a baseball player who uses baseball training techniques. Baseball players can run faster and jump higher than soccer players on average as proven. We got vids of baseball players pulling off some impressive dunks.

    And the soccer crew has?

I won't try to sell baseball to the uninitiated, but soccer is the most boring major sport on planet Earth, which is easily quantified by the fact that half the games end without one team scoring at all. I need more than just "stuff moving around" to be engaged. "Oooh. You watch it to appreciate their skills and tactics!" Been there, done that. I can only take so many 0-0 games and Mario Party.

I will say NFL football is approaching the level of soccer boredom since games today are filled with more flags and commercials than actual football. ClipperNation knows what's up here.

Disproven by the fact baseball players are faster and can jump higher than floptrot players. Ronaldo and his 8 foot dunks and 4.8 40

Baseball is insanely deep, and on the roster building side of things (strategy) it makes basketball roster building look like a complete joke.

I can elaborate, but you're too biased to learn. So keep on keeping on enjoying Mario Party

Spoken like someone who's never watched baseball. There's strategy involved in defensive positioning, pitch selection, pitching changes, and baserunning. Because the NL doesn't have the designated hitter, managers in that league also have to strategize around the pitcher in the lineup (for instance, the double switch).

Yeah I have agree with this. Both "sports" are so boring, and without any strategic intrigue whatsoever. Although soccer/futbol goals are slightly more entertaining than home runs, or "batted in" runs.

I don't even like baseball, tbh. But, if you're going to have a legit argument with grown-ups...you better come with something a lot better than a pic of Hakeem saying soccer helped him as a kid. Because it's so easy for someone to one-up that.

Every NBA fan knows that greatest of all time played Baseball as a kid. It was his first sports love. Well....I guess two people didn't know.

Another foreigner talking out his ass.

Story. I was a devoted baseball player. All I played from 5 til about 13. And there is no better sport that trains hand-eye coordination better than baseball. I was also a 3rd baseball and worked on my lateral quickness to better field balls hit to either side of me (see how an infielder spots up. Not unlike a basketball player in a defensive stance). My eye-sight started going to around this time and there goes me playing baseball at a high level (fun fact: 20/20 vision is average eye-sight in the MLB and they often have surgery to "correct" it to 20/10).

Got into basketball at his age without really ever playing it. Dribbling was piss easy (thank you baseball for det hand-eye coordination), and I was able to execute any dribble you want: crossover, behind the back, through the legs, etc. Made the Junior High team first try out and was going head-to-head in one-on-one games with the best player in school, who had been playing basketball since birth, beating him on occasion (and he was a good player. Played AAU Slam 'n Jam here in SoCal). I was a pitcher, so the throwing mechanics there made the transition to developing good jumpshot mechanics pretty easy.

Core strength? As I said, one of the most important athletic traits you can have, and nothing trains that better than baseball. Core strength contributes to leaping ability, and I could grab rim as a 5'8" 8th grader.

Friend of mine was also a converted baseball player and was even better. He actually played Slam and Jam.

Never went real far in any sport. I'm a good overall athlete, but not elite, which you obviously need to be to play any sport beyond high school at a good college.

Just because there's not a lot of running around in baseball doesn't mean the skills aren't transferable. They totally are. And it's why a lot of good NBA players were also baseball players. Jordan, Reggie Miller's first sport, Klay Thompson, T-Mac, Danny Ainge, etc.
