Good news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Always felt like Russell was the Alpha in that team.. He's not afraid of the challenge to be the man. Really glad for OkC fans TBH.

This makes no sense, right? Westbrook would lose out on quite a bit of money if he extended now as opposed to re-signing next year, correct?

It's some random guy with little-to-no credibility, and no other credible sources have mentioned it...so I wouldn't be so sure of anything at this point![]()
Doesn't seem to be the case...here is an interesting article. Basically, he can extend the contract so he becomes a free agent as a 10-year player (Tier 3 max player) rather than opting out next year--and then re-sign with OKC. In that scenario, it seems to net him $258.8 (million) vs opting out next year and signing with someone else ($198 million). It's complicated.

Watch that got Fisher sign with the Dubs because he would.
So, it only makes sense for Spurs players to give hometown discounts to enable the front office to build a stronger team around them?
Not necessarily. He can get a max extension using OKC's cap space, and that would be worth more over the next four years than anything another team can give him, and depending on how low the cap is, it might be more than even OKC can give him.
However, he can't be traded for six months if he signs that type of deal. Getting close to the deadline. In any case, this would take him off the market for a long time.
Here is an article that gives more color on the salary scenario: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/front-o...000000869.html
Looks like there might have been something to it...
At least we can stop hearing about the "Westbrook to Spurs" trade scenarios![]()
Derek Fisher running out of money, ey? hehehehehehe
omg this human wants to play again, perhaps for OKC, hahahahaha
I hope he rings next year. There's something to be said about loyalty.
Westbrook could be regular season MVP next year with a slew of triple doubles, lol
Awww well, someone went out on a limb lol
Go for it Russ...
Frankly not that I am an OKC or Russ fan, but I respect him more than the Durbeta. And it also diminishes the league to have excessive teams like the current GSW. I hope they underachieve and Durant leaves if anything bc I don't like so many stars jumbled up together. They already had a big 3 and didn't need Durbeta.
Now I will be entertained thinking where Durbeta ends up next season. I think he's opting out.
Damn I want the Spurs to catch the GSW unawares. I don't know if we have it, but we definitely have more offensive firepower than last season...
Never underestimate a motivated Gasol, Lamarcus and Kawhi.......
Gasol, when inspired, is the best player in a game......
Lamarcus better improved this offseason with the salary the Spurs are giving him.....
And Kawhi, how is he now, how is he doing? What moves did he add to his repertoire??

People shouldn't be crediting Russ. He's essentially agreeing to give OKC another year in exchange for like $40 Million. He's signing a two-year extension with a player option after the first year. It's not a horrible move by the Thunder, but no one should be patting Westbrook on the back either.
Well financial considerations are huge but it's still two years of a short career. He definitely could have done Durbeta move.
I'm just happy it's another year or two Lakers fans will continue being delusional that Westbrook will join them, while continuing to be mediocre at best.
It's one year. He'll be in the same position next year.
He wont be a FA for two years right?
or am I confused here.
If he has a player option for 18-19 it sounds like the first two years he is in OKC. Perhaps he has a player option in 17-18 too..??
Some how I think you will still hear them from some folks in here, they will come up with some crazy trade Scenario and how he inked the deal just because they came to terms behind closed doors before they traded him to SA.
